Does anyone here shoot in 3 gun matches?
I am interested in possibly getting into this.
Here are my choice of guns that I would use.
Mossy 500 20" 8 shot
RIA Tactical .45
AK (I would take the red dot off of course)

yep, you need a stock on the shotgun to be able to hit stuff, and 4-10 rd mags for the 1911.
Its all about speed.

I am getting a colapsable stock for the shot gun.
I have a bunch of 8 round mags allready for the 1911 and I am darn quick at changeing them out ( I practice this).
Any ideas on where to get into this in the S.E.?0 -
you will not need to take the red dot off, depending on class you shoot in. Let me find the liks that will be for sc 0 -
I shoot 3-gun all the time, just returned from the Superstition Mountain 3-gun in Mesa Az.
I use a Benelli Super 90 12ga, a Glock 17 and an AR with 20" barrel.
The USPSA has limited and open classes.
Limited... No optics, no compensators, no shotgun speed loaders etc.
Open ..... pretty much anything is allowed provided it is safe.0 -

Kevin, yes they will work, but AK's are not as accurate as AR's.
Your 1911 .45 will require more reloading than a pistol like the Glock 17 I use that holds 18 rds.
3-gun is a game of speed and the less reloading you have to do the better.0 -

you dont have to have a whole bunch o crap or expensive stuff to compete. basics and speed is all
I shoot a plain glock 34
frankenstein ar "dissapator" type
and a benneli m1 tactical.
go to area 6 on that website. everyone is eager to help new guys out, all different levels of shooters, fun and much better for devolping skills than most shooting!
You need a good holster and mag pouchs (4) without snaps and thats about it. 8rds will let you compete, but you will want at least 10rders eventually. reloads really affect time.
speed at reloading shotgun makes the biggest difference
might be free admission to 1st match, but I bring 200 rds pistol, and not as much rifle and maybe 100 rds + slugs for the shotgun.
carrying the crap aroung is the worst part.
I know you can make major caliber with 7.62/39 with the 154 gr wolf out of a 20" bbl, might chrono some to see, although shouldn't make much difference if you are good with a rifle0 -
You can leave the dot on the rifle and shoot in the "tactical" division. The pump shotgun will be you slowest stages in my opinion but it sure is fun. Bshooter 0 -

That is what I am looking for!
I really don't care about winning these things. I want to have fun shooting.
Here lately I have been shooting by myself in my back yard with nobody around, and although I enjoy it I could be haveing more fun.
My brother is trying to talk me into shooting vintage rifle with one of my mosins but I think 3 gun would be more fun. I did it one time near Reno NV and loved it.0 -

The shooting community are a great bunch of people. Take what you have and go with your brother and give it at try... you'll love it.
After a couple shoots you will learn alot. Fellow shooters will give you hints on equipment, ammo, and anything else you ask about. It will be much more fun than shooting alone.0 -
You have everything you need. (after the stock)
Your equipment will get tweeked as you go along. [;)]
I have to smile when I see the heat shield on your shotgun. For those that don't know, you will NEED that. Or a glove. LOL
The barrel gets REAL hot when you are shooting a stage, then when you need to flip your shotgun over and reload. Try that without the heat shield and OUCH.
Do you have some way (pouch?) to hold extra shotgun shells? Reloading your shotgun is the most time consuming part of a 3 gun match.
