I wouldn't take one for free. Well, ... no, not for free.

You want a tackle box gun? Try an all stainless AMT DAO 380. About the same price.

...Free huh...let him shoot them both first, stand at a safe distance. I think HighPoint makes the only semi-auto single shot...[:D]

Nope, cant say I ever shot one. They dont have a very good rep...[;)]

No one is being a "snob" because it's an inexspensive pistol rider, it's just Ive never heard anyone that is really into guns have anything good to say about HighPoint.

Well I can say I have not had any trouble with the one that was given to me. It is a 9mm. I know a guy who has a 45 and same thing not a single problem.

Now that said I can say this, they are ugly bulky and have an awful trigger, but for a fish box gun you cant beat them ....

they do have a good rep as far as being reliable. maybe not the best accuracy wise but they will do the job. id definitely upgrade as soon as possible, but for now, hey it goes bang.

Thanks for the comments boys.....[:)][:)] We know these were just low end guns, but we do a lot of walking back up along trout streams and occasionally feel better having something stuck in our back pockets. [}:)][}:)] Something that we wouldn't mind losing, if you know what I mean. Never know when you might run into something like a rattler or a Bigfoot, etc. OK, I know I would only make the rattler made........[:D][:D]

I own one of these. Haven't had a problem, and most people spouting bad stuff have never really used one. It's inexpensive, but it works, and it's reliable. I can't attest to accuracy that much, because I'm a terrible shot anyways. [:I]

I have a friend that has one. It goes bang every time he pulls the trigger. Also, High Point does seem to stand behind their products. For what they are, and they don't pretend to be anything but what they are, I'm not going to bash them. Better to see an American company manufacturing guns than going bankrupt or sending the machine work to China or Mexico or Brazil. Much better guns out there, but for the money, and what you are going to use it for, they are OK.

I have a couple of them. 9 mm, .380 and a 40. They aren't bad guns. I picked them up primarly for the times i take my kids to the range when they want to just blast a few rounds. They were great for general instruction. But my 14 yr is ready for high quality guns now. 11 yr old still loves the high point. As for reliability, I have never had a lick of difficulty with any of them.

Thanks for the additional info, fellers. It makes me feel better. I hate to except a free gun from this guy. I've only known him for 50+ years and there might be strings attached. He's been after my sister since we were kids......[}:)][}:)] [:)][:)]
