Gunbroker auction and selling in the store
I see alot of sellers list items for sale on Gunbroker, that they also have for sale in their stores. If a buyer places a bid on Gunbroker, they are assuming the item is available for sale. In the mean time, the seller sells the item in his store and then tells the bidder at the end of the auction that the item is no longer available as it sold in the store. I would think that if you list an item on Gunbroker, you should pull it off the shelf in your store as soon as a bid is placed, that would be just common sense. In reading thru some of the sellers negative feedbacks, I see this come up alot.

When I had my shop I would pull the item so it was only for sale for the auction. I had a few people drive to the shop to view the item after seeing the item online, they offered to buy it then but they were fine when told that they needed to bid on the auction or wait for the outcome of the auction. 0 -
The only fair way is to pull the item from the self until auction is over. 0 -
My local shop puts a flag on the guns that are up on auction or he puts them away in the safe. Someone comes in and asks about one of 'em, he tells them it is up on auction, checks for bids, and if there aren't any he'll just cancel the auction. 0 -
Yep, agree. I've seen several auctions here where you are supposed to call some guy's store before you bid th make sure he still has the item. What a crock. I would never buy anything from them. 0 -
I guess my items a slightly different than guns, but I have a similar
disclaimer as the sellers you speak of. Reason being: I may have a
knife sit at auction for months, or even years..so if someone comes
along wanting to buy it - it's sold. I do try to keep a rotating
stock on hand, so not having a similar (and often nicer) item to ship
is seldom a problem.0 -
I tend to agree with the posts but I think if you have something on auction that has no bids and you have the opportunity to sell the item, then it shouldn't cause a heartache if the seller pulls it. I know some say " I was going to bid on the last day". [:(] 0 -
no, actually its the owners right to advertise to as many people as he wants. having a store sale trump a bid is nothing more than being equal to a 'buy it now' option.
its your responsibility to read his rules to play his game.
you have to remember, you cant see it, but a lot of emails, phone calls, and haggling goes on behind the scenes on these on line auctions. nothings solid, its all fluid and constantly changing.
and too, its not the sellers goal to let something linger, its to make a buck and turn a product. welcome to capitalizm.[;)]0 -
There's a regular seller on GB who states "This item may not be in stock. Please e-mail us prior to bidding to check availability"! What's up with that? If you don't have it, don't list it! [:(!] 0 -
When I put an item on auction I will leave it in rack until a bid is made then I take it out of the rack and put it aside. If someone wants to look at it I'll show it to them and if they are intersted will tell them they have to bid on it. 0 -
sometimes stock moves faster than one can keep up with auctions and email....unless you hire someone to spend the whole day in front of a monitor.
i never knew what volume was until i spent a day at a local retail gun shop in the big city, watching customers come in and go out...let alone the ups man deliver a gun and pick one up every 15 minutes. this guy was selling 300 guns a day. and on a goodday up in richmond, ive seen donny sell 800 in one day. just before xmas, HIS STORE would cap 1 million in sales in ONE DAY. trust me, with that, these puny gb auctions are fodder and take back seat.0 -
From the rules.........NOT that it always works this way.
Sellers that have a winning bid on an auction, THEN tell you that they have already sold it, SHOULD have their accounts terminated.
