Got robbed today!
I needed a new monitor and decided to pick one up at my local Fry's Electronics. It was a flat panel, 20" LCD on sale and a $30 rebate.
I bought the monitor, paid for it at the counter, and walked out to my truck. I put it in the bed of the truck, unlocked the door and climbed in.
As I was starting the engine, I felt the truck shake. I looked to see a young black kid (maybe 18 or so) running towards a car with my monitor in his arms.
I jumped out as quickly as I could, but they had already floored it and all I could get was the first three numbers of the plate.
I didn't have my cell phone with me, and feeling like an idiot, I went back in the store to have them call the police.
When I told the guy at the door what happened, he called a manager. I asked him to call the police, and he started asking me a bunch of questions. Still a little angry and upset, I asked him again to just call the police for me. His reply was, "Let me call security".
I'm a little past PO'ed, so I told him rather sternly, "I want you to call the police." He said, "Sir, I'm going to take care of it", and asked me for my receipt.
I showed it to him, and he handed it to one of the rep's there, and told him to get another monitor. While he was doing that, the security guy got there and started asking me questions.
I answered all of them as best I could, and the other guy came back with another monitor. The manager gave it to me and told me the security guy would escort me to my car. He did, and this time I put it in the cab of the truck.
I am happy they gave me another monitor, but I don't understand why they didn't call the police. I figured as soon as I walked out the door, it was mine and they were free and clear. Great customer service, but I don't understand why they didn't call the police even if they were going to stand good for it.
Oh well, no gripes here, and I hope the kid drops and breaks the other one when he's going into the pawn shop to hock it.

Yes, but to kill someone over $250? If I were in fear of my life, I would, if he were just doing it to get away, I'd let him go. Human life is worth more than $250 to me.0 -

Slow down there Hoss. If I recall your four years of combat experience left you with the finely honed senses of a jungle cat. Let me be sure I understand this: You are sitting in a cafe with the family and can notice a women helping herself to a free salad but while you are alone without ant distractions some kid swipes you new TV right from your truck...While you are in the truck! Oh Yes, I'm the one who'll have my nose in a can of beer while the evil doers take advantage of me. Of course this entire forum is nothing but a popularity contest, and you are near the top rung, but if this would have been me you can bet that a dozen guys would be ripping me a new one over it.
I said it let me observant of other people I see, I never saw the kid. You, want a fight and you're not getting it. Stir your stuff somewhere else college kid.[;)]0 -
Bottom line folks, I was NOT being observant or on guard, and I can no longer RUN anyone down. In fact, I was parked in a handicap parking spot and can't walk well since loosing the two toes anyway.
If I had gotten my hands on him, I would have given him the worst 60 seconds of his life, then I would have had to stop to catch my breath.
I let my guard down because I saw no one around me and I was in a place I felt safe. There is a lesson there for all of us.
And lastly, I am not going to shoot a kid over $250 of stuff. That would be insane.0 -

just hashing out other scenarios. to make it clear, I wouldn't shoot somebody over a tv either.0 -

But... but... but... he's a criminal! And, all the idjits in DC tell everyone that we'll turn the streets into the Wild West and stuff and we'll shoot people over stolen TVs and minor parking accidents and stuff if we are allowed to conceal carry or just plain old own guns.
You wouldn't want to make Schumer and Brady out to be liars, now, would you? That would be rude.0 -
Him "whipping" out a gun could be a deadly act on his part. I hope these fools have more brains than that, but who knows. 0 -
your lucky that's all he took could have been your life 0 -

Wan't aware of the change, but I'm still not going to shoot a kid over $250.
And, I thought the castle doctrine only covered your home, not a business parking lot. I dang sure not going to be the test case!0 -

I did not have those four years of combat time to keep me constantly on gaurd so I had my household electronics delivered.0 -

Good for you. I'm glad to see you know you limitations![}:)]
The lesson here for all of us is never let our guard down. Once I was inside the cab of the truck, I was relaxed and not watching. It won't happen again! I felt like a total fool, and still do to some degree.[;)]0 -

Dont they have cameras in the parking lot ??? 0 -
Shifitng gears over to the actual crime; 65gto makes a good point about cameras. Chances are good that this guy was hanging around the parking lot or perhaps had been inside the store waiting for his chance. Since carrying a box that size down the street would likely attract attention he must have had a set of wheels somewhere near by and some video footage might be the break you need. I don't want you to think that I am not concerned about this theft, but I do feel that it puts the "stolen" salad into perspective. 0 -

I do know they have cameras, and as the security guy was escorting me to my truck with the second monitor, he told me this wasn't the first time it had happened.
Maybe they are targeting Fry's, maybe it's happening other places. Who knows. I still don't understand why they didn't want to call the cops.
But, stealing is stealing. I think we are in deep trouble if we start allowing it at any level. How much rape before it's rape? We don't want to open that door.0 -

Yes, why?0 -
Its very sad that the perps have more rights then the store. People/store should have the right to defend there property without being scared of being sued.[:(!][V] 0 -

Should have been carring... You could have dropped him with a double tap and calmly walked over and got your monitor back.[:D][8D]
I was carrying. I have and use my Texas CHL, but I wouldn't shoot an 18 year old kid in the back over a $250 monitor while he running away and not threatening me. In fact the law here is you can't shoot them in retreat.
That's why you use a throw down. [;)]
And yes I would shoot a punk kid stealing anything from me.0 -
Personal call I guess. 0 -
Maybe because I'm a little crippled up, I've become more of a target. I should be a lot more observant in the future, and I will. 0 -

Inside job.
How? It was an older car, and the security guy said it wasn't the first time it had happened there. I didn't see anything that would suggest an inside job.
Because of their lack of interest in calling the cops.0 -
That is cool.
Excellent, Sounds like they have earned your future business.
That thief has some balls!!!
If I tried some crap like that, which I would not.
Would get my foot ran over, get caught up in the bimmper, then drug slowly by the truck, until run over.
The victim would backup over me to see if is all right, if still alive.
Then get the holly crap beat out me, then call the cops.
I think that would be fair?
