I am really ticked,
I have been on the road this week, hauling cattle & mostly sitting due to the weather & bad roads.
Anyway I always call in late every night & access my machine & check my messages.
My wife by the way has been out to her mothers & that left no one at the house.
Anyhow, I got a message that a check I had written had been returned
NSF, The man was very nice & left a call back #. So the next day I called him & yes it was a check That I had written.
So I called the bank, just a hole lot hot under the collar, the girl at the bank said that a rather large check that a cattle buyer had given me had a stop payment on it. & that in turn made my checking account in the red. The bank had returned several I had written, but she said that they {the bank } had sent me a notice telling me of this action.
By this time I was ready to bite nails into. So I called the cattle buyer, He told me that his briefcase had been stolen from his car at a restaurant & that several checks had been written on him, He is an older man {LATE 70s} & never writes down his checks, he has the duplicate type & his bookkeeper takes care of that, so not knowing what was out that he had written & what was out that was bogus his book keeper did a stop payment on a book of checks, mine happened to be in that list of #s.
He has since sent / mailed me another Ck, but thats not the problem,
the bank charged me $20.oo for each ck returned, & the people that I wrote checks to will also charge me a returned Ck fee.
Then today I got a phone call from some outfit called clearcheck & they say I owe them money, I don't even know them.
I called the VP of the bank & he said they would set my account up different where this does Not happen again, but in the meantime I come out looking like a total ASS
I still don't have any idea what this is gonna end up costing total.

I'd be going to the cattle buyer and telling him that he's caused you a whole lotta pain due to his lack of notification to you that he had to stop pay this check. 0 -

David, the cattle buyer told me that he would take care of anycharges this ends up costing me, but in the meantime I still look like an ass to the ones that I wrote checks to.
I guess it will all work out but I am stilled ticked about the whole deal.

And what really makes me mad is that my wife & I have several CD's at this bank.
I think we are gonna do a little bank swap'n in the next day or 2 , I have to see when the CD's are up and then I'm gonna transfer them to a different bank also.0 -
Yes, it hurts and is embarrassing. 0 -

Do what you want, but I wouldn't be hasty about changing banks. If they're willing to extend you some overdraft protection and not charge you for the ones already returned, they're doing ok. What happened is probably automatic. logevity with a financial institution counts for something. MHO0 -

Do not know which bank you use, but I expect that you know that the "local banks" as opposed to the "brand ones" are sometimes easier to get along with in this area. I have banked with one of the locals for many years. The foolish president simply covers mine and has his secretary call me if I do not get the deposit there within a couple of days. For small businesses this is very handy and avoids the problem that you described. Most of us have been where you are. No Fun!!!!!!0 -
Calm down Dan. Don't go flying off the handle at the bank.........yet.
They did the same thing that most ANY other bank would have done. You didn't have any "Overdraft Protection" set up on your account. The VP has offered to remedy that. The cattle buyer has offered to cover any costs you incur, sounds like it will all work out in the end.
If you explain what happened, to the people that had your checks returned, they "should" understand. Most people have had this "domino effect" happen to them at one time or another.0
