The wife is talking to her sister in Discovery Bay (1 1/2 hrs east of San Fran) right now and I saw this thread. I guess my 14 yr old niece felt it. 0 -
5.6 is just enough to wake you up, but is not enough to get out of bed for. Get into the mid 6's and it starts to get interesting. 0 -

I just saw the local news cast adn they where showing some jars knocked off the shelfs but not much else. They said that it was at 8:04 PM... I didn't feel anything here in Sacramento. 0 -

You'd rather 'take your chances' with a hurricane?
Count the number of folks killed by hurricanes and then those killed
in California quakes, in the past 50 years.
We actually enjoy the rollers down here, when we're lucky enough to
feel one. Haven't met anyone who said they ever enjoyed a head on
with a hurricane! LOL

Being originally from Cali I have been through a few and they need to get up over 6 to even get a minor concern.
That being said, I will stay here in Hurrican country! A hurrican has warning to it! Yes there have been more killed by hurricans in the last 100 years, but those were mostly people too stupid to get out of harms way! And in the case of Katrina not only were the people too stupid to get out of the way, they stayed in an area that was a sitting duck by being below sea level!

a 3 to 4 would wake up depending on how far and deep it is. Anything over four you'd feel, but it ain't enough to pay attention to. When I lived in LA, at some point I literally stopped paying attention. If it ain't big enough to have stuff falling off your bookshelves - it wasn't worth paying attention to.0 -

The only California earthquake that ever got me out of bed was around 1952, I think. We lived on my uncles farm about 15 miles north of Bakersfield. That one about leveled things. Anyone remember that one?
