The local hunting store (rant) (update)
I own a Ruger P345 and had to send it off to Ruger to get some repairs done to it. I talked to Ruger and they said they could send the gun right back to me here at my house. So I go and send it to them through UPS, at the local hunting store, also licensed FFL dealer. This all took place about three weeks ago. So, yesterday, I called to check on the progress. Come to find out, the hunting store's address ended up on the box. The nice lady at Ruger told me they have to send it back to address on the box, due to FFL regulations. Well, I go to the hunting store and relay all this information, and now I have to pay another $30 to do what they said was a transfer to get my gun back. I am not familiar with all of the gun laws, but does this sound messed up to you? Or should I just pay the money and let it be?
Well I got my gun back today, and didn't have to pay any fees, or do any paperwork on it, after the lady got all the facts straight.
Well, I get home, load the gun, go out back and shoot it, and guess what? It will fire two or three rounds, and then it will not chamber another round. All of this, after Ruger replaced a few parts in the gun, and test fired the weapon. Would it be the ammo I'm using, possibly? Any suggestions? The ammo is Remington 230 GR JHP.

Your FFL dealer sounds like a crook to me, I would tell him if he charges me I will post the name of his store and what he did on every gun web site on the net. IMHO thats really dirty to do someone that way. 0 -
Did you put your return addy. on the package? If you did, then they
must have changed it to their addy. If this is the case, I would raise hell with the store manager.0 -

Repairs don't have to do a 4473 unless someone other than the person who dropped it off is picking it up....they should know this. It looks like they are trying to get a couple of bucks out of you. Maybe they aren't doing well....it is a down time of year for gun stores. Mothers day isn't a big "gun selling" time of the year. 0 -

I did put my address as the return, and even on the letter in the box. The lady at the store said that all the packages get there address b/c they get billed for the postage. That doesn't make any sense to me, but who am I?0 -

Why did you use the local hunting store? You can ship a firearm through UPS yourself.
Did you "SEE" the package get taken away by the UPS driver, or did you just "drop off" the package at your FFL? If you just dropped it off, the FFL might have put his own label on it, since they DO pay for the postage. Did you pay the FFL for postage? Did he put a meter strip on it?
If it comes back to their shop, and they log it into their bound book, they will have to have a "disposition" for it. You will probably end up paying them their $30. (along with the background check) That cost is at their discretion. You may be able to talk them down, or out of it, you may not.0 -

I used the local hunting shop because they also have the local UPS services. I guess I could have sent the package myself, but hindsight is always 20/20. I did not "SEE" the UPS driver take the package. They weighed the package put the meter strip on it, but I did have my address on the package. But oh well, guess I'll do better next time.0 -
If all they did was put a meter strip on it, and YOUR address was on it, it should come back to you, not the store. Sounds like your local store is pulling a fast one on you. A pretty low trick to get $30 out of you. Yup, hindsight is always 20/20.

I did a similar thing but I had bought the gun at the same store. They made me fill out the paperwork but did not charge me for getting my own gun back.
Go there and pick out about $100 worth of purchases then go to get the gun when they ask you for the $30 tell them you won't be buying the stuff after all, now or in the future. See what happens.0 -
Firearms should be shipped to a FFL holder.You can ship them yourself but the receiver must have an FFL,I believe that to be the law in all cases. 0 -

What was wrong with the Ruger?
When you fired the first round through the gun would fire, but the trigger would not "reset".
You could pull the trigger, but there was no resistance, and it would not fire another round. I could engage the safety, and it would "fix" the problem. I took the gun to a few "average" gunsmiths, but they couldn't fix it.0 -

Sometimes a HP will hang up. Try something different.
