    If it a private seller without an FFL yes

    Yup, Fed law says common carrier (no USPS unless you have a FFL) and the common carriers insist on next day over night air to cut down on thefts, etc.

    May be cheaper to pay a FFL $20 plus USPS costs ($10-15) to ship it for ya... certainly better to support a local business than give extra $$ to UPS or FedEx

    I recently spent $44 to ship a tiny little Ortgies to a top notch smith in Lousiana via UPS. Did I mention I hate UPS?

    $60 is the quote I got from UPS, last time I called them for shipping a handgun.

    I did what iwannausername stated, and gave my FRIENDLY FFL some business.

    You just got a royal screwing. Some dealers will put the pickle to you at every chance. And then, you will find a very honest dealer who will work with you.
