223 hunting loads -- got any good ones
Yes by the way, this is an actual gun related question.
Anyone have any good loads for using the 223, specifically the ar-15 on wild pigs?
What bullet? what powder?

Hornady 53 grain hollow point, 24.5 grains of IMR3031 gets ya 3260 FPS 0 -
If you can get..50 g 'v'max + VihtaVuori n133.......ok to 225yds+ yds......niiiiiice [}:)]
depending how big the pigs are!!0 -
Mond,
I have a bunch of 50 grain v-max.[:D]
I am looking for something a little bigger to shoot wild pigs with.0 -
I don't believe that I would use .223 for wild pig. If I had to I would go with the heaviest FMJ bullet I could get. Them pigs is mighty thick skinned. 0 -
A ear/head shot with just about any weight .223 will drop them. The real trick is getting them to stand still so you can get that head shot.
here's a link with some pics

What he said. If you *must* use a 223, I think barnes makes that solid bullet in 224 diameter...but you'd need to load 'em.0 -
The heaviest bullet for the 223 is a 90 Grain Sierra HPBT IMR 4895 at 21 grains pushes it at 2356 FPS but has terrific bullet drop beyond 100 yds.. 0 -
I am going to use a 1-7 twist ar - 15.
I can roll my own, so any bullets are a good choice.
But, just in case, I will also have the Remington 30-06 with me.[:D]0 -
Yeah...don't use .223 for hunting. 0 -
I use 55 grain sierra GameKings,27 grains of Hodgen BLC-2and CCI small magnum primers.I have killed a ton of deer with it,but would shoot a pig if the chance arises. The most important thing with a 223 is to shoot them where they need to be shot.Absolutly no iffy shots. 0
