Question for Deer Hunters.....

It's in the mid 60's today and overcast.

Supposed to get a light rain here in an hour or two, getting heavier around 7pm. Sunset is about 7:30.

Will the deer be moving?

    Not if you make a good shot.[:D] [:D] I have always had good luck hunting with a lite rain but if it get heavy they will be bedded down.

    That depends..Are they happy where they are?[:)]

    Now that the wise a s s answer is out of the way..Look at them as you would yourself. If they need to get someplace where they ain't, they will travel in the rain, but given a choice, they gonna go in the house and take a nap.

    Call me crazy if you wish, but I love sitting out in the woods during a light rain or snow. Something really peaceful about it, plus that means that most other hunters are at home[;)]. Now if the rain gets heavy I stay home and from my experience so do the deer.

    There will always be ONE buck that just HAS to get up, pee, and see if there is any pizza in the fridge (or the deer equivalent) Rain/snow tend to thin out the hunters. [:p]

    I love to hunt in the snow, but snow has became rare thing in Southwest Va. Like now its 65 Degrees, used to by Oct you had your heat on not your air.

    Nighthawk, know what you mean. It used to snow in TN too. We even got sleds for Christmas sometimes, but there are people here now who have never seen significant snow.

    Global warming a myth? pshhh..It ain't no myth, but maybe Bush didn't cause it..

    Cubs...as long as it is a light rain, no problem. But if it is raining hard enough that you can't comfortably stay out in it, then deer will bed down. I have had great luck with a heavy mist falling, just hard enough to get you wet. Good luck if you decide to go!

    I always always hunt in the light to moderate rain. If it's raining hard the deer are less likely to move, but in my experince they (expecially the big bucks) love to walk in the light rain. Good luck.

    Some of the BIGGEST bucks dad has killed was in the middle of HEAVY rain, or HEAVY snow.

    Thats when the big bucks move.. They live in it. Dont let it bother you.. When the cold front is moving in, GO HUNTING!

    Light rain won't hurt much. Nasty weather typically means fewer bucks moving but often those bucks that are nearly nocturnal will feel safe enough to venture out. Then its time to bag a big one.

    Yes, but they will not be eating out in the middle of the fields, more around the edges almost into the tree's. Deer get nervious in the rain and wind they can't hear as well when it is blustery out. So they get up and mill around unless it's all out down pour then they find a nice big tree to hunker under and wait it out.

    Heavy rain and wind interferes with three of their best defenses. Sight, smell and hearing. That is why they prefer NOT to be out in it.

    Myself, I prefer a light snow, or just after a heavy snow. Quiet, peaceful and I can see their movement much easier. That is the best time for still-hunting. A light rain is ok, too. very windy days seem to spook them, too. I rarely see deer on days with high winds.

    I have hunted in the rain ... but have not been all that successful at anything other than getting really wet and fairly discouraged. So I'm going with snow or good weather!

    And as GunTech59 says: Heavy rain and wind interferes with three of their best defenses. Sight, smell and hearing. That is why they prefer NOT to be out in it. If the deer are not going to be out and about, why should I? Sitting on my stand when they are not on the move just doesn't work.

    any time they cannot see or sniff ya, is good......snow = exellent, mist = good, acorns = easy !![;)]

    If its raining probably not, especially if it was overcast during the day they may have already been grazing.

    I`ve killed deer in all kinds of weather, sun ,snow, heavy rain and 50 mile an hour wind. The deer are always out there.What are they gonna do,go inside? Moveing or not,all you have to do is find em. Just go hunting.

    I'll hunt light rain or light wind,..but heavy of either,..stay home. Also,..whatch the moon phase,.....full moon and they feed nocturnally. If this is the phase,..I tend to do other things or hunt a bait pile for "meat deer".

    was wondering the same thing cubs. I'm heading out for a special antlerless season they have for a few days here in DE. Been raining light for 2 days now...supposed to stop by Friday and be about 55 degrees. Good luck to you.

    I have found that they will frequent more open areas in a light to moderate rain so they can rely on their sight more for protection. As to the above comment on full moon, hunt hard from 10 a.m. til 2 p.m. as they do feed at night, but will get up for a bite to eat in the middle of the day as opposed to bedding down for the entire day.

    headin out in the AM. Supposed to be a light shower and 53 degrees until about 11:00. After that the skies are supposed to open up...will be out of the tree then.

    Get a soap bar of Irish Spring. Hang it in a tree and just wait till they come by and take a late shower.

    I just took a little Sunday noon stroll in my deer woods. I only saw two sets of tracks ... one deer and one coyote. Yup, they are out in the woods all year long! But I find the woods a big mess and very hard to move and not scare off the deer. So I do prefer hunting when I am not moving and the deer are moving. Too bad that they become nocturnal so quickly! Too bad they post the seasons where the deer can find them![V]
