I cried when I heard her speak those words a year or so ago. She nailed it. For anyone who is not a Christian maybe they will understand Christians a little better.

Most of the Christians I encounter on a daily basis are of the "I'm clean livin!" Uber-proud and holier-than-thou variety that think they are better than everyone else. Most Christians I have encountered are the first ones in line to cast the first stone and judge other people.

It seems you may have encountered people who are still learning how to live a Christian life. I hope they continue their learning.

Just read this very message board, the same so-called "Christians" are usually the first ones to call for someone's execution, or for the pre-emptive nuclear bombing of some entire country. The "Christians" here seem to have no problem judging other people and they are the first to call for "an eye for an eye" instead of turning the other cheek.

I agree gagirl, it really nails the true Christian identity. Any other way is simply not Christianquote:Originally posted by gagirl

Far be it from me to judge anyone else, but the "so-called" part of your statement hit the nail on the head. Jesus told us that the world would know about him by our love for ONE ANOTHER. So, IMHO, you got the "so-called" part dead on. Please don't judge all of us on the "so-called's".

Would you please read the original post again.

    these lines specifically

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
    I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

Christian's do not claim to be perfect. In fact we know we have faults and do things we are not supposed to do. When we recognize the wrongful things we do we ask for forgiveness and try not to repeat the same mistake again.

Warriorsfan: sounds to me like you have only been around a bunch of "religous" christians. You know christian in name, and not in Spirit. Thats enough to turn anybody off.

I do not think that explains anything to me. I was raised and taken to church and never understood why people actually went. When you could be outside enojoying the fresh air.

54And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.
55And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.
56Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?
57Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

Maybe those are just the ones you notice, because they annoy you. There are "talking" Christians, and there are "walking" Christians.

Yes ... Christians - By Maya Angelou said it VERY WELL. My son wrote guitar music to this poem and it is really neat to hear him sing it! Great message and very true!

I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.
    When I say... "I am a Christian"
    I'm not holier than thou,
    I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!
