Treestands

Did some last minute scouting and found another good place for a stand for my little brother. I have been wanting to get a new one anyways, so I figured I have a good excuse now.[:p] Here are my requirements: Hanging stand, decently big platform(brother isn't a huge fan of heights) and I would like to be able to mount a shooting rail on it(both for accuracy help and comfort security) What you guys think is a good stand?

  I am far from being an expert on stands as I am a ground hunter, but if you have a Tracktor Supply near you they have some that look pretty good for some reasonable prices.

  how about one of the "my buddy" ladder stands the ones big enough for two people ,{ designed for taking kids and such] good size platform shooting rail included

  I would agree with jabronij3, You can buy a 12'-15' buddy ladder stand with shooting, and arm rails already attached. The stands are actually pretty comfortable but not so much that you fall asleep. They are also inexpensive. Why not consider a climbing stand? Easy to move from tree to tree, your brother can climb to a height that he feels comfortable, and they are easy to pack in and out so nobody steals it off of your tree. Had this happen too many times.[:(!]

  I bought two -2 man ladder stands this year,
  shooting rail included.Shot a 5 pointer out of one
  monday. BUT ,do a lot of scouting
  and pick your location well.
  I've moved one twice,they are a pita
  to move.
  Comfy and roomy for one,two would
  be tight

  If you are set on a hang-on type stand, then the shooting rail thing kinda puts a damper on it. There are a couple out there, but not many. I have a Gorilla Silverback XL that I really like. It is nice and light, and the platform is HUGE! No rail though.
  
  Cabelas has on that comes with a rail, but it is made from Steel and weighs in at 37lbs. That is a lot of weight to be messing with trying to attach it to a tree 16 feet in the air.
  
  The other thing that you can do is buy one of the cheepys and then get the Summit Folding Trophy Chair to hang with it. It doesn't have a shooting rail, but it does have armrests, which will allow you to anchor your elbow and use your support arm like a monopod. That is a pretty solid rest in and of itself.

  If you want a "climbing stand" or a "hang on" stand I'd ONLY buy a Lone Wolf. They are American made and first class quality and easy to use.
  
  I'm 48. I'm done using the above stands. I only use ladder stands and tower stands now. The 2 man ladder stands are worth the extra couple bucks even if just one hunter is using it just for the extra room.
  
  DON'T go cheap on your safety belt.

  I've been making my own ladder stands using discarded bed rails for the last four years. They work just fine and so far no steals them.
  
  Prior to this when I was living up in NB, I made my own stands out of discarded 2x4's and 2x8's and climbed up in the branches of the trees and added a step if necessary.
  
  I had one very productive deer stand that actually had no steps at all (just tree branches from two side by side trees) ... other hunters (and deer) would walk by and never even knew I was up there 30 feet reading my Bible or another good book and having a good look and deciding whether to shoot or not (shoot the deer of course)!
