GM Guys-Pontiac Bonneville Door Handle
A while back, we had a small ice storm. Dawnie's car, a 1997 Pontiac Bonneville, was covered in ice when she got in it to come home from work. When she tried to open the door, the handle broke because it was frozen shut.
We don't really have the time or inclination to haunt wrecking yards looking for a door handle, and I am not sure I would even get the right thing, so I made some calls. This seems to be a difficult part to find, and I don't understand it, since the Bonneville retained the same body style over several years.
The local Pontiac dealer didn't have one, but claimed to have located one in Washington. That turned out to be a dead end. The part showed to be in inventory but could not be located.
I have good friends, one a body man and the other a general mechanic, looking for the part among their contacts, but so far, no luck.
I would prefer a new door handle assembly, but would accept a used one in good shape. Color is no object, since even a new one will have to be painted to match.
The part I need fits the driver door. It is the outside door handle assembly, and includes the lock.
Until the car is repaired, Dawnie has to get in the passenger side and reach across to the driver door to open it from inside, then go around and get in. She is getting annoyed.
If any of you knows where I can find such a part, please get hold of me. Thanks.

David! Leave the drivers window down a little.[;)] 0 -
rogue rob, THANKS.
However, that is the REAR driver-side handle. I need the front one. I will look some more on Fleabay.

Believe it or not, I suggested that. My suggestion was not well received.[xx(]0 -
On Fleabay I found door handles for all three doors OTHER THAN the driver door. Dangit! 0 -
Just called the poncho dealer here. He had ordered on for someone on backorder since Dec. New one is $126.43. They must be in love with them. Got to be one in a junkyard. 0 -
You might want to try emailing the seller's of the door handles to see if they have what you want. I found an entire door once for my car that way. They shipped it via Greyhound and I saved a lot of money rather than buy the part locally. It was even the right color and buffed out to a perfect match. 0 -
http://www.car-part.com/ might try here 0 -
Still looking. What year model RANGE can I specify on a search? 0 -
I think you can put 1997 and leave it at that. I did and it showed several. 0 -
Yes. That site was a good thing. Lots of links. I sent requests to about 20 dealers. Surely one will come through.
Thanks.0 -

I sent one of these to the junkyard last week. I'll call them in the morning and see if they still have it around. 0 -
The junkyarddog link is a good one. I got a lot of replies and leads for them when I was looking for parts. 0 -
David,
I'm pretty sure 96 through 99 will fit.0
