I know a couple people that had them when I was younger. One guy had very few problems(just normal wear and tear repairs) and the other guy had all sorts of troubles. Keep in mind that the guy who had few problems took real good care of it and kept up on the maintnance, well the other guy just drove it weather it had oil or not. For the right price I would say that they are a decent little car.

Its at a buddy of mines shop - thats all it needs - tires, timing belt, and a bath. No one wants to buy it - so hes giving it to me for no charge, it was a drop off he fixed up or something - so it didnt cost him either - he is going to crush it if i dont take it0 -
Mitsubishi is known for their junk engines.... their amazing 3.0L V6 used to drop the valves at 49K miles... Do yourself a favor and go to the nearest Dodge/Chrysler Dealer and ask to see the TSBs (Technical Service Bulletins) on that vehicle (you might want to call first). 0 -
when i was in college i had a 93 Eclipse (same as a talon and laser)...the car had good power and was fun to drive. The timing belt broke, bent all the valves in the engine and cost a bunch of $$ to fix. Even after the repairs it was never the same. 0 -
Probably not a good investment. 0 -
You need to just go with a Honda Civic, Toyota, or a GM with the 2.8, 3.1L, or 3.8L. Those motors are just abour bulletproof. 0 -

I had a friend in HS that had similar problems twice.0 -
I had a 97 Eclipse GS-t Spyder. Turbo, automatic, tons of power and tons of fun. Only problem was the cowl shake.
Had the T-belt, water pump, balancer shaft, balancer belt, etc replaced. Traded it in about 2 months later wtih 93k miles. Talked to a buddy who is the Mitsu Service mechanic. Said the Turbo blew up about a week after we traded it off.
The only Mitsu I'll ever buy is the Lancer Evolution.0 -

I would suggest pricing that timing belt job first! I had a Stealth, also a Dodge, and the timing belt was $300+ plus the labor to put it in. They pretty much took the bulk of the engine apart to do it and the total tab on the job was over $800 (with a new water pump included as well). YMMV, but I would look into it first. 0 -
