Elk with a 22

Can I use my Marlin to hunt elk. Ammo is alot cheaper than my 30-06??

    Thats all tbey use on the Crow reservation around here, 22's and 22 mags.

    I once was told that if i planned on hunting alaskan grizzly bear with my 300 sav that the guide would take me but he would stay 4-5 ridges away cuz he didn't want to get ate.

    .22 works plenty well for Whitetail..

    On the res they use a 22, sneak up on a herd. select a calf. shoot the calf in the chest. The snap will startle the herd, but since no further action, they settle back down and continue to graze on. Meanwhile the calf is getting sicker and sicker as it continues to bleed internally, finally laying down and unable to get up. The herd moves on, leaving the calf. The "hunter" then moves in for the kill. Ah, the methods of those that preceded the whites. Go for it.

    You forgot to mention that they only shoot them close to the road, so the wife and kids can load it in the pickup.

    Nope, can't use a Marlin, have to use a 10-22.

    It would not be legal in many states that require the use of a center-fire rifle. Some have minimum caliber requirements like .223 or .243.

    Isn't a marlin .22 a centerfire it only has one barrel? I though it meant that those European double guns were not legal.[:D]

    Could be done ... but it sure does not sound too ethical to me. Be ready to watch it suffer a long time and be ready to track the wounded animal for a long ways!
