'Sanctuary' for deadly gang
Illegally entering the United States is a misdemeanor under the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act. The objective of the Act is to provide for deporting illegal aliens, not imprisoning them here. That would defeat the purpose. But the Immigration and Nationality Act defines harboring, shielding or concealing illegal immigrants by American citizens a felony. Again, the purpose of the law is to keep illegal immigrants out.
Under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigration Responsibility Act and the Welfare Reform Act, one may not restrict the sending to or receiving from the INS information regarding the citizenship or immigration status, whether lawful or unlawful.
Therefore, those entering the United States illegally can be charged with a federal misdemeanor, but aiding and abetting illegal aliens within the United States is a far more serious charge - a federal felony.
Time for a short civics lesson. America is a republic, not a direct democracy. A republic is a sovereign state ruled by representatives of a widely inclusive electorate. In contrast to a direct democracy, a republic empowers voters who elect representatives to act for them at the federal level.
The majority rules - but not a local majority, or even a popular voter majority. Our republic is ruled by the majority of U.S. representatives and senators.
In our republic, legislation is passed by the majority of elected lawmakers and then signed into law by the president.
Once passed, it becomes the law of the land, binding even where the majority of citizens disagree with it. And America is a federal republic. That means federal laws cannot be overturned by local jurisdictions.
The Supreme Court ruled in 1989 that laws prohibiting bringing in or landing aliens, transporting or moving undocumented aliens within the U.S., and concealing, harboring, or shielding aliens were constitutionally valid.
The concept of sanctuary zones for undocumented immigrants has no legal basis in the United States. Declaration of a particular jurisdiction as a "sanctuary zone" is a felony under federal law.
Notwithstanding, the cities of Boston, Houston, Los Angeles, Baltimore, New York and San Francisco and many others have set themselves above the law, declaring themselves sanctuary cities.
In effect, they've invalidated federal laws - and now are beginning to pay the price for their misguided foolishness.
Consider the following statistics. According to a recent report provided by the Los Angeles Police Department, 95 percent of all outstanding homicide warrants are for illegal aliens. Two-thirds of all LAPD felony warrants are for illegal aliens. The California Department of Justice estimates 60 percent of L.A. gang members are illegal aliens.
Sanctuary cities have provided a safe haven for a dangerous and violent Central American gang called the MS-13 gang. Thanks to safe havens provided by the misguided politically correct, MS-13 now has more than 36,000 members nationwide.
Gang members in America have been tied to numerous killings, robberies, burglaries, carjackings, extortion, rapes and aggravated assaults. Authorities said that the gang has earned a reputation from the other street gangs as being particularly ruthless and that it will retaliate violently when challenged.
Recent reports indicate that MS-13 has expanded from California to sanctuary cities in Alaska, Oregon, Utah, Texas, Nevada, Oklahoma, Illinois, Michigan, New York, Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Washington, D.C., and Florida. The gang has also been exported back to Central America.
Since they have no particular allegiance to the United States, their allegiance is for sale to the highest bidder.
MS-13 has ties to Adnan El Shukrijumah, a top al-Qaida lieutenant believed to be plotting new attacks against U.S. targets. El Shukrijumah had sought meetings with the Mara Salvatrucha gang leaders who control alien-smuggling routes through Mexico and into the United States.
El Shukrijumah, 29, who authorities said was in Canada last year looking for nuclear material for a so-called "dirty bomb," is a former southern Florida resident and pilot thought to have helped plan the September 11 attacks.
In addition, Hugo Chavez has threatened to unleash an army of operatives already inside the United States if the U.S. were to attack Iran. The cities most at risk are cities like New York, Baltimore/Washington, Los Angeles and Boston.
They are all self-declared sanctuary cities.
The recent and inexplicable decision to open up U.S. highways to the Mexican trucking industry only increases both the risk and the threat. By not sealing the borders immediately after 9-11, President Bush made one of the biggest blunders of his presidency.
Everybody in America knows what needs to be done, but no politician is willing to risk the ultimate career killer, the label of "racist."
But the other choice is even worse than a career killer. You can't seek another career if you're dead.

I think Lou Dobbs summed it up perfectly when he said, "The Republicans see cheap labor for their corporate backers. The Democrats see new Democratic voters for themselves."
It's impossible that either party cannot see the harm that is resulting to this country unless this trend is turned around, but they are feeding at the public trough and they do not want to give it up.
Would discontinuing buying from the people who hire these illegals help? I don't know. But we might pick a couple, say Swift and Tyson's and see.0
