Trout Fishing

Its very dry here and they havent stocked the trout streams like usual, however they did stock a few big holes today. I took the evening off and took my wife fishing. We tried worms and corn as well as salmon eggs and didnt even get a nibble. I went and bought a small block of Velveeta cheese and I caught 4 my wife got 6 her limit. What kind of bait do you use when fishing for trout? Any good tips appreciated, we may go back tomorrow.

    Small inline spinner...generally one with a white skirt. During the hatch, tan or black skirt

    If you are fishing for anything but fresh stockers, i'd use flies or live minnows. Worms if there has been rain. For fresh stocked, pieces of corn look like the food they get at the hatchery and works well. If the velveeta worked today though, i'd do it again tomorow

    Hard to beat good'ole VELVEETA. I used to add a pinch of cherry jello or some corn meal....Did good on all,,,

    When I lived back in Oregon we'd always use a spruce fly during the evenings. During the day we'd use flatfish lures. We'd usually use the green frog looking one or the silver with blue freckles on the top of it. We had good luck also with the yellow flatfish with the black and red dots on it.

    We would always troll.

    i used to raise rainbow and brown trout, the absolute best bait is kinda like cheating, go to the hatchery get some of the food they feed them, and soak it in water in a small jar, to much and it melts you'll have to fool around with it to figure out the right time depending on the food they use, and don't buy the crap in a small jar they sell that "looks" like trout food

    Velveeta or powerbait, but if they are not hitting on that I go with a Superduper, works everytime

    But honestly it depends on what part of the country you are in and the weather on that day.

    In California trout was about all I fished for and I could normally limit out every day that I went.

    Cheese is a good trout bait also and if you look at the larger fishing supply places most will have a cheese flavored bait for trout.

    I have also been to one place (sparks Nevada right behind sierra sids) that the only thing that the trout seem to hit is power bait! And they are even picky about which kind! It must be either Red White and Blue with the sparkles or Blue Mango! Any other types of powerbait seemed to be a lost cause!

    The trout farm food works good in most places as it is a familier food to them and they just seem to go right after it.

    over the summer was in the smokies they hit an orange colored roostertail bait real well may have just been luck

    dang it, dang it, dang it, when i started my trout pond the camera was a sony mavica i had a bunch of pics from breeding to full grown to the grill my disc are now corrupt, i raised them from egg to over 9 pound females, i had some 7 pound males, i bought my first 100 pounds for around 350 bucks, then after me and friends hit it pretty hard i built a hatchery and was producing a few thousand a year, everyone that came and fished swore i had them trained, they would bring everything mentioned above, and i would catch 10 to 1, then we would hit the hatcheries i would be done in 15 minutes

    i still have a box of photos somewhere i just have to find them

    It doesn't attract them very well, but if they're already there, it blows them out of the water!

    Use some small trebble hooks and mold the velveta around the hook. It will stay on that way![;)]

    When I cant get them to bite anything else,I start turning rocks in the creek over and try to find small crawfish or hellgramites for bait.
