Now, everyone's PO'ed at me.

Sandy and I went out for a while this morning for breakfast, and when we returned home, Josh's new girlfriend was in my office working on my PC. He was nowhere to be found.

As soon as we walked in the door, she yelled out "hello", so it wasn't some kind of shock when we saw her, but we were surprised.

Now, he dumped his old girlfriend a few weeks ago because they had a fight and she drove off in his truck. This girl was a good girl and I trusted her in the house. We've only met this new girl once, and now she's in our house alone?

After Josh left, he moved in with her. He still has his key to the house (I failed to get it when I put him out, my fault), and it seems he brought her over so she could use my high speed internet connection to do some work for her job. (or so the story goes) Meanwhile, he had some running around to do, and he just left her here alone.

After they left, Sandy and I did so talking, and we could identify 7 keys to the house we knew of that were out. That's just way too many.

This morning after we talked, I changed the locks on the house and the security code on the alarm system. I have also deleted all but the one garage door opener I use from the openers memory. I called everyone to let them know that if they need in the house when we are not there, they will have to contact my sister, because she will have the only key being the executor on our will.

Ain't none of them happy! I feel more secure already![^]

    Sandy was really, really PO'ed that the girlfriend was in the house alone. She is as happy as I am that we have resecured the house.[;)]

    buy some vaseline and get used to the good life... :)

    Jacob,

    Do you have a key to your fathers house? Sure. Josh has always had one to ours too. Imagine your father taking your key away from you at age 32. It would mean he couldn't trust you as well at 32 as he could at 16. That is a pretty harsh realization, and Josh is having a hard time with it. He's not even thinking about fire, he's just PO'ed I'm not letting him have free reign around here.

    Seven home keys to seven different people is seven too many and I don't blame you for changing the locks. Folks who need keys can now report back to you and get their new set.

    Heff didn't change the one on the kitchen fridge, just the beer fridge.

    I think you did the right thing. When I moved into my parents rent house we could only identify 6 of the 8 keys and I decided that I would change the locks. I did it too late and found one of the old renters in the house when I returned one day. He was just chillin in my living room.

    I was sooo P.O.ed that I threw him out quite literally. The locks where changed an hour later and I did the same with the alarm system and garage that you did. I think you did a fine job. The only people with keys now are my parents and me. Gotta love it. I feel much more safe.

    I'm not locking my flesh and blood out. I'm locking who my flesh and blood might let in, out. I totally trust my family, not their friends. Don't read something in that isn't there.

    Glad your world is perfect, most folks isn't.

    I think you are doing the right thing. I have a friend with a 32 year old meth addict son who steals him blind. His - my friend's - life is a constant nightmare.

    I don't have those kind of problems. He doesn't use drugs, he just wants to live out of my pocketbook and not support himself. I have issues with that.

    He needs to stand on his own two feet. He doesn't need to be buying new trucks when he doesn't have his own house. Living here, he could spend his whole check on "stuff" like new clothes, new truck, new motorcycles, vacations, ravish dates and so on rather than rent and utilities.

    Time to get it together.

    I'm with Clouder. We only lock our house when we are going to be gone for a few days. Even then it is a scramble to find the keys.
