    I seen this before... But watching it always gives me a chill... The Japanese threw everything including the kitchen sink at us, and we still won the war. I fear that that breed of American has been reduced by 50% or more now though!!! I hope I am wrong!!!

    I know this WW2 vet real well who told me while on the right flank of the line fighting its way south on Okinawa he and many others watched the kamikaze hitting the light cruiser Birmingham. He said it came straight down and hit, then in a few seconds the sound of the explosion, and within five minutes a high smoke ring had formed over the ship. Said it had to be a mile in diameter. The kamikaze's bomb went thru the weather deck and exploded in the sick bay and killed most of the doctors and nurses in addition to a lot of personnel. Yes, those kamikazes were bad motor scooters.

    I wasn't implying that the generations since then couldn't fight - I know better than that.

    I don't believe, though, that we will ever have as high a percentage of our young Men willing to give their lives for Our Country, as we did in WWII.

    The bulk of the current kids have ZERO sense of history or Patriotism.

    Well i must defend your younger boys...Coz its a huge difference between fighting for your own countrys freedom and to go to exotic places and kick ass coz we need their oil...or their strategic location is vital for our pilots supplieroutes or weedplantations or sumthin like that.

    Easily fixable -- send them to labor camp in China, or just to live and work in Europe, Russia or some other such country, 6 months later they'll come back patriots.

    Seeing what the free world has turned into makes me think the sacrifices made by that generation was for nothing.

    Talented: Why not just keep your stupid thoughts in your own little pittiful country that collaborated with the Nazi's in WW 2 and were well paid for Swedens iron ore and ball bearings. At least, Norway and some others had some fighting men. But I guess the German money was good and
    a lot of it.

    Back on topic: Without a doubt, that was/is the greatest generation of Americans.

    My dad was telling me about how he was told to shoot them outta the sky, aim about 2 inches under the prop is what he told me.He also told me they shot back and he can remember the sound of their bullets hitting the steel plates in the front of his gun.What story intrested me most was finding a cave with guns and grenades the Japs had hid,and may still be there today or so I'd like to go see lol.

    When I was teaching in Japan back in the early 70s, one of my students, an elderly Japanese gentleman, told me that he had been trained as a Kamikaze pilot when he was a student. Fortunately for him, his squadron had only one aircraft. I've always wondered if it was fortunate for my father too, since his carrier was hit by three kamikazes in one battle.
