Hairy, a question
Do you agree with Jimmy Carter's statement to Al Jazeera that "Rocket attacks on the Israeli citizens is not terrorism"? He was talking civilians, not military.

I'd like to read the entire article, not just one short unrelated excerpt before commenting on it. Do you have a link?
FWIW, I just finished his recent book and he does not support terrorism there (either Israeli or Palestinian) and so states. Your quote might be an error.0 -
I may still have it at work. I'll check Monday. I think you'll be shocked to read the transcript. He now says it was a poor choice of words. Couple that with his comment the other day about the "so call holocaust" and i think the boy has slipped around the corner on reality.
Here's the link for that one,

Here's a link to the story about his comment on Al Jazeera,

And if he corrects a misstatement, what's wrong with that? People misspeak all the time, don't they? quote:

http://web.israelinsider.com/Articles/Politics/10381.htm Reread his comments and you'll see he did not say what you originally posted, i.e., ""Rocket attacks on the Israeli citizens is not terrorism"?" FWIW, even the UN says the Palestinians have a right to resist, by force, the occupation of the Israelis. I agree with President Carter that when civilians are targeted, it is no longer a military action but one of terrorism.
Of course, I'm sure you will agree the same standard is applicable for the Israelis when they drop a 500 pound bomb on a civilian neighborhood, or indiscriminately use artillery fire against a family enjoying a picnic on the beach or fire a Hellfire missile into the streets.quote:

This is a 32 meg download and I'll listen to it when I have more time.
ADDED: Just tried to listen to it but again, the voice-over of the translator makes it impossible to understand.
FWIW, I just finished reading President Carter's book and to be truthful, don't understand the Israeli/apologists hooping and ahollering about it. His comments are accurate and substantiated--so what's the problem?0 -
Hairy,
He didn't misspeak. He got called on what he said. If you look at all of what he has said for the last two years, this is one more progression in his diluted though pattern. He said it and his aids tried to get him to recant it, but it's already out there.
Even all of the people how have abandoned him and quit and left his organization, they all say the same thing. He has lost touch with reality, and these are his fellow left wing democrats who love and worship him.
I have more respect for, and some what agree with, the people who say Jews need to stop crying about the holocaust and start living a productive life free of a built in excuse. I feel the same way about slavery. Enough time has pasted that there are very few who were affected by the event, and life goes on. That doesn't mean we should forget or fail to learn the lessons it taught, but any of us who live through a terrible event must do everything we can to move past it and not use it as an excuse for failure or special privileges.
All of that being said, Carter is either so old or so delusioned, he can no longer be taken as a contributor to a real conversation on the matter. I think he needs serious help.
It might also interest you to know that I do believe and support the ending of financial support to Israel from the US as long as we end that same support to everyone else, including Iraq.
The world has gone goofy, as has Carter.0 -

He's to the left what Pat Robertson is to the right. I have no use for either one of them and won't contribute a dime to either of their coffers. I've already followed Carter ever since his Presidency, and I had formed my opinion as of two years ago. I'm through with him, I just wondered if his supporters have seen what his workers and the rest of the world has seen. He's gone! I don't think anyone can gain any ground quoting or supporting him at this point. In fact, all it will do is make it easier to dismiss what ever argument is being made. (Just like those who quote or support Robertson on the right)0
