Suzuki Marauder?
I am looking at a 2003 Suzuki Marauder. Any body here own one or have any opinion about this bike?
Any problems I should be aware of? I have heard they shift hard, but are otherwise a solid bike.

How much is the motorcycle you are looking at?
I'd personally stay away from chain drive as shaft drive is lower on the maintenance side. Other than the final drive, I'd say that Suzuki makes a great cruiser. It's probably on line with Honda as far as enjoyability and reliability is concerned.
I'd encourage you to look for a 2004 Honda Shadow Aero VT750C (750cc). It's the same class of motorcycle and you're basically getting the same thing for your dollar. The seat on the Honda is probably more comfortable just from looking at the seat of the 2003 Marauder. The Honda Aero is also shaft-driven. No chain maintenance issues. I traded my Aero for a Harley because I grew out of my Aero after two riding seasons and I've always wanted a Harley. The Harley dealership sold my Aero for $3500. It had 2500 miles on it.
Either way, you're probably getting a good motorcycle depending on how the previous owner maintained it. I'm just not a particular fan of chain drive. I don't mind the belt driven HD because I'm getting a lot more motorcycle than what I used to have. However, for the class of motorcycle you're looking at, I'd prefer shaft drive.0 -
I worked at a Yam-Hon-Suz dealership for a long time.....too long. Anyway:
Suzuki's V-twin is a good motor. Good power. Reliable.
Handling is on par with other cruisers. No more maintenance than any other motorcycle.
Can't remember any shifting issues, but they use a linkage system (like most cruisers to get the pegs forward) and that can add some resistance to the shifting operation.
Should be a good bike if it's in good shape now.
Just park it in gear because the sidestand doesn't fold very far forward. The first ones fell over sometimes if not in gear.0 -
It is a 2003 with 4400 miles. Excellent condition. bone stock. I will probably put a set of aftermarket pipes and a jet kit if I guy it. I prefer a shaft drive over a chain drive, but I like the bike, so I guess I can deal with it. KBB lists retail for $3900. I offered $3000 and am waiting for the guy to call me back. I bought my son a used Suzuki Marauder a couple of years ago, and it has been nothing but good. No maintenance problems, and no repairs other than buying a battery. His is the VZ800, and it pulls and rides like a 1000cc bike. 0
