Sex offender law
UPPER ARLINGTON, Ohio - Beginning Wednesday, sex offenders cannot live within 1,000 feet of schools, daycares, parks, playgrounds, libraries and public pools.
It will be the toughest sex offender law in Ohio, 10TV's Eve Mueller reported.
Police said that they would enforce the law through mapping technology.
Measurements are taken from the outside perimeter of every restricted place in the community, police said.
Three people living in Upper Arlington are sex offenders, while another two offenders work in the city, according to police. New law mandates that the five must register with the city along with any others who choose to live or work there after Wednesday.
At this point, no one has to move or quit their job, Mueller reported.
"If they haven't registered with us, we'll contact them (and) say this is our new law (and) you may not know, but you have to contact the city and register," said Upper Arlington police Sgt. Tracy Hahn."
A few steps from Jones Middle School, Tina's Seaside Deli is within the restricted zone, meaning that owner Tina Betz cannot hire convicted sex offenders.
"I would not want someone working here that was a sex offender," Betz said.
Enforcement could be tough, especially the part of the law that says sex offenders who work seven days in a row or 30 days in a year within the city have to register and be out of restricted zones, Mueller reported.
"There's no way for us to keep track of every person doing home improvement and road work," Hahn said.
Police will investigate tips on violators. They will also send 1,500 notices to people who live within 1,000 feet of the five offenders currently in Upper Arlington, Mueller reported.
Sex offenders are restricted from where they live and work, but no law prevents them from visiting any of the places on any day of the year.

I like this law. I'm not sure about the way they classify people as sex offenders though. A buddy of mine got into some trouble, alcohol was involved, and came real close to being labeled a sex offender. It made me wonder how many other people have made the lists that don't deserve to be there. I bet its a small minority, but its got to suck to be those guys. 0 -
My neighbor is on the list too.
Great system the minor he had sex with has been his freaking wife for eight years now.....
You know I'd to see them put up another site... People on the list that shouldn't be...
Half the freaking neighbors moved before the truth was known......
Crikey Just how many of these guys on this list 18 yr old boys that nailed there 16 yr olf girl friends...
I was in a class of 78 kids in Highschool 10% of them had kids before we got our freaking flat tassled caps...
Yea great law... While you are watching some guy who is married to the minor he sacked 8 yrs ago through the front window, a Ted Bundy wannabe just drove by from outa state and spots your lil girl in the back yard and is bashing her head in with a crowbar...
Bottom line, your info is faulty....Don't watch your neighbors, watch your freaking kids!!!!0 -
In my opinion I think our sex offender laws and system is a complete joke and they certainly don't have the logical edge, and certainly do have the hysterical edge the same as the anti-gunners use.
statutory rape is a complete joke in alot of cases I've seen. Like some 18 year old kid should go down and have this screw up the rest of his life and mentality for nailing some 16 year old that knows every bit as well whats happening.
Now the little kid molesters and voilent sexual offenders on the other hand should have no chance to commit another crime. They should be hung. I've watched first hand the damage it does to a persons mental state for the rest of their life.0 -
So, if the offender is outside of the 1,000 ft. from a school, are kids arent going to be molested? Brilliant! 0 -

And a whole generation of folks Laughed at it....
The Streak
Hello everybody, this is your action news reporter
With all the news that is news across the nation
On the scene at the super market
There seems to have been some disturbance here
Pardon me sir, did you see what happened?
Yeh, I did...I was standing over there by the tomatoes
And here he come
Running thru the pole beans, thru the fruits and vegetables
Naked as a jay-bird
And I hollered over at Ethel...Isaid don't look Ethel
It was too late, she'd already been incensed...
Chorus
Here he comes, boogie-dy, boogie-dy
There he goes, boogie-dy, boogie-dy
And he ain't wearin' no clothes
Oh yes, they call him the streak
Fastest thing on two feet
He's just as proud as he can be
Of his anatomy
He's gonna give us a peek
Oh yes, they call him the streak
He likes to show off his physique
If there's an audience to be found
He'll be streakin' around
Invitin' public critique...
This is your action news reporter once again
And we're here at the gas station
Pardon me sir, did you see what happened?
Yeh, I did...I was just in here gettin' my tires checked
And he just appeared out of the traffic
Come streakin' around the grease rack there
Didn't have nothing on but a smile
I looked in there and Ethel was gettin' her a cold drink
I hollered...Don't look Ethel
It was too late...She'd already been mooned
Flashed her right there in front of the shock absorbers
Chorus
He ain't rude, boogie-dy, boogie-dy
He ain't lewd, boogie-dy, boogie-dy
He's just in the mood to run in the nude
Oh yes, they call him the streak
He likes to turn the other cheek
He's always making the news
Wearin' just his tennis shoes
Guess you could call him unique...
Once again, your action news reporter in the booth at the gym
Covering the disturbance at the basketball playoffs
Pardon me sir, did you see what happened?
Yeh, I did...half-time, I was just going down there
To get Ethel a snow cone
Here he come right our of the cheap seats
Dribblin'...right down the middle of the court
Didn't have on nothin' but his PF's
Made a hook shot and got out thru the concession stand
I hollered up at Ethel, I said don't look Ethel
It was too late...She'd already got a free shot
Grandstanded...Right there in front of the home team
Here he comes...look...who's that with him?
Ethel, is that you, Ethel?
What do you think you're doing?
You get your clothes on!
Ethel, where you going?
Ethel, you shameless hussy
Say it isn't so Ethel
Ethel..................0 -
These such laws are great! however if you have ever looked at the sheriffs/police departments page for sex offenders many are listed as transients and have no address. 0 -
Oh yeah...this is great!
Lets push all the perverts out of urban areas and into rural areas.....After all, kids in the 'burbs are more important than rural kids....[xx(]
If they are a danger to society, don't let 'em out of prison....How hard is that to understand?0 -
Castration is the key![:D] 0 -

Agree, do not put the same label on someone taking a leak behind a dumpster at a closed eatery late at night (friend of mine) or kid doing his girlfriend a yr or two younger than him in the same catagory as a POS child molester. Then make a law that the worst of the worst can not LIVE within a 100.000 miles of dirt. 0 -

In my work I deal with this issue. From what I have seen I agree with the quoted part from Kodiac...0 -

Nope, it's not. First off, what part of female sex offender would you castrate?
Secondly, this isn't about biological urges it is psychological.
Pedophilia is incurable and we have yet to find any treatment that works. Captial punishment is the key.0 -

+1 you pi$$ behind a dumpster in ohio an get caught guess what your a SEX OFFENDER, stooooopid law now isn't it[V]0 -
I've read some ACLU challenges to these types of laws saying that after they have served their sentence in prison or their probation, they cannot be discriminated against by restricting where they can and can't live. The answer to that is burying them so they don't "live" anywhere![}:)] 0
