Some mechanics here: As a retired air-traffic controller, we'd get word of "live fire" being conducted at XXX restricted area (area designated for mil. flight maneuvers, gunfire, etc.) and get on the control line-FAA landline commo, open line and inform center that XXX restricted area is "hot" from (time) to (time). I've seen those cruise missiles on the radar. Some even code squawked a beacon code. That's for positive identification. Very expensive live fire exercise, as the missile is used only once. Usually done for contractor's certification. Rgds, Joe 0 -

could be right. dougway proving grounds is west of SLC not to far.Its a closed range for testing all kinds of military toys. We were driving on the outskirts of it one day in the desert. When two jets decided to have a little fun with us . they bore down and went right over the top of us, couldnt have been a couple hundred feet above us. Didnt see em coming till they went over the top of us and made big noise. I had my window down. I ended up on the drivers lap from being startled0
