mossberg rifled slug barrel
I was wondering if anyone has used a rifled slug barrel on a mossberg 500. I am currently using a smooth bore slug barrel when I have to use a shotgun for deer. I am not impressed with it, have missed a few easy shots (not that I should blame the gun, mind you!!)and I don't like the sights. I am also curious if they take special ammo, or can I use regular rifled slugs? I like the gun, it's a 20 gauge...it's nice and light and fairly durable. Thanks for the help!!

never used one but the rifled barrels mostly use the saboted slugs where you use the old foster [ punkin' ball] slugs in the smooth bores0 -
yes the rifle barrel is worth it, although i think i have a different model which is there newer line. not sure it may be the 500. i was in the same spot you where in. i can hit a deer at 100yrds with it with my scope mounted no problem. i was using regular 3oz slugs made by Rem., got them from a hardware store. 0 -
I have an 835 with a rifled barrel. It was very accurate with Brenneke KO Sabots. 0 -

I use a Mossy 500, 12 ga. with a ported, rifled barrel when I hunt where rifles are not allowed. I have a Bushnell Banner 1.5-4.5X32 scope mounted on it. It is a dedicated deer slug gun.(never take the scope off, switch out barrels, etc.) My furthest kill with that rig is approx 170 yds.(Hit the deer exactly where I intended.) I use Winchester Supreme Platinum Tip or Silver Tip, 7/8 oz.sabot slugs.0 -
oh i meant 3" 1oz slugs (typo)[:D] it would hurt like god knows what, and that would be a long shotgun shell 0 -
My brother's deer gun is a Mossy 500 with a Rifled barrel. Decent accuracy, it would be better off a bench. 0 -
I have a 20 ga. Moss Grand Slam turkey, put a rifled cantilever barrel on it,Nikon 2-7 scope
for deer, we hunt "close in", urban residential
Using remington copper solids, very precise out to 100 yds.
It does the job,no problem,
Good Luck, Dave0
