    Eat dinner at "Earl Able's"
Catch a breakfast at "El Mercado"
Small Texas Ranger museum at Breckinridge Park on Broadway.
    Stay armed.

...Watch your speed on the base. Lakeland MPs WILL give you tickets for 18 in a 15. If you're driving and son is in the car, he's gonna catch h*ll. Never mind how I know...[;)]....Remind him to keep his cover on.

...Take the long walk around the static aircraft on display. It's worth the walk.

....I wish I could remember the restaurants where we ate. Real Tex-Mex served by guys that know what's good and give you plenty of it.
    ...............Congrats to the new Airman...............

    Congrats!!

    Some other hints:
-Do not park in any unauthorized parking spots on base. If it has a sign or is marked and you can't understand the abbreviations---don't park there!
-Plan on attending church services on Sunday with your son. This will give you more free time to spend with him.
-Do not return him back to his training squadron late or you will not see him the rest of your stay.
-Take plenty of pictures during parade and warrior week, depending on his AFSC and tech school length you may not see him for another 12 months.
-Show your son how proud you are, BMT is not hard but can be a very lonely time.
-Ensure he maintains his bearing and follows protocol while in public settings on town pass. Count how many times he jumps or flinches when you hear boot taps while walking around town. The SP & LE students love to go downtown with their taps on for townpass to scare the new airmen.[;)]

The River Walk is a nice place. Canyon Dam and the Gruen Hall is great. New Braunfuls Smoke house is a place to visit. My 2 cents [8D]

What Training Squadron is he in? Where's he heading after Lackland? Take a walk around the Parade Grounds, there's a really nice air park there. Wow, its been 10 months since I graduated from basic at Lackland. Tell your son congratulations from a fellow airman, and tell him it gets better from here, even if you get stationed at Minot. Enjoy the short amount of time you'll get with him down there.

What interstate are you traveling on to get there? I'm fairly close to I-44, if you're traveling on it thru SW MO would be willing to buy ya a burger or taco on your way by.

Yes, congratulations on your son's graduation! Don't forget to visit the Alamo! If your driving down on I-35 stop off at the Texas Ranger Museum in Waco...easy on and off access. You surely will enjoy it! It is a really exciting place that is full of Texas history, and they have lots of old firearms, too.

Congratulations to both parents and son.

Mine is shipping out for basic in less than a month. What's your son's AFSC going to be?
