Cops: Slaying suspects after family's guns
Police released new details this morning in the robbery and murder of a father and son at a Southwestside home.
Robert Stone, 18, and two 15-year-old boys have been arrested in the killings Saturday of Anthony Earl, 47, and Michael Earl, 18, at a house in the 4900 block of West Troy Avenue.
On the day before the killings, police say the Earls showed their extensive collection of guns to one of the teen suspects, according to a police report made public this morning.
The teen wanted to buy some of the weapons, but Anthony and Michael Earl refused to sell them to him.
The Earls and David Sueskew, 19, were in the home when someone knocked on the door at about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday.
Michael answered and three masked suspects entered, police said.
One suspect pointed a handgun and asked "Where are the guns?"
Anthony Earl tried to take away the gun and the suspect shot him, police said. Michael began fighting and the suspect shot him too, police said.
The shooter, police said, held a gun to Sueskew's head and ordered him to open the door to the room where the Earls stored dozens of rifles and handguns.
"Sueskew could not open the door and in fear of being shot began punching at the door," Detective Jessie Beavers wrote in a report. "The shooter gave the gun to another suspect who began firing at the door handle and the door opened."
The three masked suspects grabbed weapons and fled, police said.
Police later recovered 36 guns from the home, including several 7.9 mm and 7.62 mm rifles, an Uzi machine pistol, and Colt, Remington and Beretta handguns.
Officers arrested the two 15-year-old suspects on Tuesday and Stone on Wednesda

If they had the guns somewhere besides locked in a room, they might have defended themselves. 0
