A man has a heart attack and collapses. Two women witness the event. One starts CPR and the other calls 9-1-1. The man is revived through CPR and then paramedics show up. Who is the "hero" ? The person who called 9-1-1 or the person who performed CPR ? 0 -

I'm wondering how much stock to put in anything this guy is saying, or at least what the article says.
In Bourbannais' account the gunman had been inside the building firing long enough for him to make his way to the area, demand a gun from another person "four or five times", explain to them that he has combat experience, yell insults at the gunman, get shot at, make further demands for the person's gun, then yell more insults before Assam finally shows up and shoots the gunman.
According to Assam she heard the gunman firing from outside, then took cover and watched as he approached the doors. Just after he entered the building she stepped out and confronted him. I've read/heard several witness accounts that jive with her version.
Bourbannais also paints the picture of him approaching the gunman with Assam and as he "slumped down and his head tilted" he began complimenting her on her actions. I'm inclined to believe she was busy securing the gunman's weapon, not stopping for conversation.
With all his detailed observation, Bourbannais somehow also missed the part where the gunman shot himself.0 -
TXS makes some good points. Personally, the more I hear this man talk I think he is a HAM and media wh*re. He has been on just about EVERY single news show talking about how brave he is. 0 -
With all the big news shootings lately (Nebraska mall, church and Las Vegas bus stop) only one shooter was stopped. In that instance the shooter was stopped by a person with a gun. In the others, the shooters moved freely and at will and only stopped when the shooter decided to stop. 0 -
I never saw anything about the gunman shooting himself, it said Assam shot him.
It is possible the man distracted him & not only made it possible for the guard to get him but maybe kept him from shooting others.
The only thing I would fault the guard for was trying to get him to surrender. I suppose that was the PC thing to do but there's no way I would waste my breath on that. Still she gets a big A+. It may be easy to hit a man sized target on the shooting range but it takes a lot more in that situation.0 -

Not to take anything away from Assam, but now that the preliminary autopsy report is in it's been released that the actual cause of death was a self inflicted gunshot wound. There's the distinct possibility that one or more of the "multiple wounds" inflicted by her would've caused his death, he just hit the escape button first.
By all other witness accounts Assam was on the gunman and firing immediately after he entered the building, which conflicts with what this guy says. The fact that only a couple of people in that crowded hallway caught fragments also tends to back up both Assam's and the other witness statements. It sounds as if he didn't have the opportunity to directly target any of these fish in a barrel because he was distracted by her punching holes in him, not some guy yelling insults.
Consider too that this suicide with a 7.62X39 rifle probably involved a contact or near-contact head wound. This would be a tough sight to miss from the close proximity this guy claims he had.
There were a lot of people present, but notice the only mention of this guy's heroic actions has come from his own statements to the media.0 -

I expected Ms Assam to be about half ugly, but other than the Adam's Apply she ain't a bad looking woman.0 -
The local KC media has basically ignored Ms. Assam and her heroic deed of a common citizen using here own firearm and her CCW license, basically put a stop to a mass murderer.
The media just plain does not like to promote that, even when it comes to crazed gunmen, sometimes the lowly, common citizen on the scene, and with a gun, is better than 20 police cars enroute from 5 miles away.0 -
