A Simple Announcement
As much as I would like to share the stories of what Mrs. Plaid and myself have gone through in the last couple of years in attempts to have a child, these stories are probably not best shared at this point. Perhaps I should say we have traveled done many roads. Among many other things, there was a miscarriage and there was a hysterectomy last year.
At times it seemed like we were merely chasing rainbows from one to the next. When we arrived to the destination hoping to find the reward of our pursuits, we found ourselves unsuccessful. At that point we targeted and plotted a course to the next rainbow.
Months after the miscarriage, a friend of Mrs. Plaid ask if we would consider allowing her to carry our baby, a surrogacy pregnancy. After prayer, consideration, and much discussion we agreed and began the process last October. On January 10th with the help of a doctor, Mrs. Plaid and my baby was created. The doctor then implanted the baby into our friend and by the grace of God, it worked. At the end of September, our baby will be born.
Jesus did say "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." I believe this is true, but for this friend to give life to a child as a gift for me and my wife is an incredibly humbling gift. It is also another gift that we can never repay.

Psalm 126 has these words that you may find appropriate here, Captplaid:
"We were filled with laughter, and we sang for joy. And the other nations said, "What amazing things the LORD has done for them." 3 Yes, the LORD has done amazing things for us! What joy! 4 Restore our fortunes, LORD, as streams renew the desert. 5 Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. 6 They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest."
Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS on God's blessing! What JOY, indeed!!0 -
Congrats!! Best wishes to you, Mrs. Plaid and the friend.

Once you hold your new baby you will have new understanding of God's love. I know I did. I cannot imagine loving someone so much that I would sacrifice my child for them but as you well know he did. May God smile on you and your family always.
BTW, buckle up and pull the straps tight. The ride is just about to start.[:)]0 -
I wish you all the best. Anyone who would go to those lengths will surely be great parents.
Pics when he or she arrive? I love other peoples children.[:o)]0 -

Hoping for a boy. I keep telling her I want Moses for a middle name. I figure it was good enough for John Browning and it apparently didn't screw him up. Besides it's not used enough anymore, but she wants the surrogate's last name. She'll win that one.0 -
I am curious how this works?
is there a pre-agreement and contract drawn up stating that this is your baby upon birth or will you need to go through an adoption type process.0 -
Varies from state to state. Lawyer says she shouldn't go to Missouri in the last weeks. The laws and courts aren't up to speed down there. Supposedly our state is one of the better ones. Both parties have a contract. Unfortunately there are only a handful of lawyers in the state that handle this stuff, hence my rant about lawyers months ago. Wills were drawn up for both parties including a special clause describing the situation. Supposedly, when we leave the hospital, the birth certificate will be in our names. This is different from an adoption in the states view. I was told that some hospitals can find it confusing, particularly old Catholic hospitals. 0 -
