    the question is simple ....
Sorry if this is becoming a PITA. 25-06 or 243?

it requires a simple answer ,
    243 .

[:D][:D]Yeah 20/06[:D][:D] Unless you want to hunt Elk and it will take them; I know but wouldn't recommend it for above deer.

    25-06 is the better caliber.

Maybe the thread title should be the anit-penultimate thread to begin to commence to prepare to get ready to think about making a decision on a final caliber selection for a rifle I think I might have meybe decided to order. I think.

I am glad to see many here are suggesting the .260. It is a heck of a round!

I appreciate the fact that you have settled on a choice of rifle, but the .260 is good enough that I truly believe if you would alter your selection to one that chambers the .260 you would never be sorry. In a reply to another post on the "Experts" forum tsr1965 had this to say:

"I have an a-bolt ss in that caliber that i won at a raffle from a local rod and gun club. I put a Nikon 4.5-14 Buckmaster mil-dot on it. I ust the Nosler 120 grain Bt's. It has been like the hammer of thor. One black bear, one cyote at over 600 yards, and several white tail. It hits the shoulder like a 243, hits the target at 400-500 yards(using RCBS ballistics program) like a 308 winchester, and shoots as flat as a 270. I actually stepped down to this from an a=bolt ss in 300 win, that i favored for many years. I am in love!"

You said you reload and want to develop a load. Give the .260 a try. It does not dissappoint!

I will put my 2 cents in. Love my .243. Great round. Also look at the 6.5-55 swede.

...all you poor un-educated folks out there.[:(] The 25-06 is one of the greatest calibers ever invented....I wish the Old Reverand GHD would drop in and attempt to educate you folks.

I have both calibers and I would get rid of the .243 long before the 25-06.

Go with the 25-06 You won't regret it...and you'll be able to come back and educate this board a little. I'm appalled to see so many ignorant folks here![V][;)][}:)][:X]

I know guys who swear by both. The .25-06 is the higher performing, while the 243 is the general answer for an "all 'round hunting load." there is substantial overlap in performance, so I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

Of the two cartridges you mention I would go with the 25-06. My personal opinion of the 243 is that is adequate for nothing larger than a coyote with the vast majority of projectiles offered.

By the way, what rifle are you considering?

You all are making this very difficult! [:)]

I asked for you to help me decide between the two. Not give me more choices.[:D]

Cubs just break down and get the 243 its great on yotes and also on deer.

    problem solved [:D][:D][:D][:D]
