manufactured on a Friday?

All mil-spec 5.56 is getting scarce, but genuine Lake City stuff (not remanufactured with LC components) has been tough to come by for several years.

Here's some '06 manufactured LC 62gr ammo that our military refused to accept and it got released to the civilian market.

Can you tell why?

    Cases look funny to me. Like they are reloada and have been previously fired from the discoloration. But don't know for sure.

    The discoloration looks like annealing. Like you'd do with reloads, maybe.

    Well let me take a chance. I never saw any not in Bandos, cardboard sleeve, 3 clips per sleeve, 10rds per clip and marked 5.56mm BALL. Any where close? Oh the annealed necks are proper.

    That's an M855 round....not an M885.

    We have a winner!

    M855 has been our standard 5.56 round for quite some time and is cranked out by the bazillion at the Lake City facility. Makes me wonder how this happened and how many were in this lot.

    Dang, I feel old. We used M196 (?) rounds in our M16-A1 rifles.

    Or maybe it was M198 - but something like that.

    Or maybe it was M198 - but something like that.M193 was the old 55gr round used in M16 and M16A1 1:12 twist rate barrel rifles. All our 5.56mm weapons since the mid 80's have been equipped with 1:7 barrels in order to use the 62gr. NATO standard load.

    M855 through 1:12 rifles gives so-so accuracy out to about 200yds, but M193 out of 1:7 rifles groups about 15in. at 100yds.
