Security Firms

My best friend is looking for a private security firm to sign up with in Iraq. While he is a skilled electrician, work here is come and go. He was in the Air Force and trained as SP, qualified as an instructor with the M-60.

All that being said....anyone here know of a reputable firm that he can approach? I thought someone might.

    Most private contractor firms over there hire through a "network" of ex-soldier types, and if your friend only qualifies with the M60 and electronics; I think if they'd wanted him, they'd have made an offer when he was there.
    Try a Google search on security+contractors+iraq.
    There used to be a lot of these groups, Sandline, Blackwater, etc., but they change and relocate frequently to keep one step ahead of new laws and new Regimes. A lot of the world considers anyone accepting money to fight/provide security in war zones as Mercenaries, and they have a bad perception of what they actually do.

    It's also a Felony to recruit "mercenaries" in the U.S.

    Blackwater is the big boy in the gun toting security world over there. Dyncorp is also always looking for guys to go over.

    Thanks for the ideas. I will pass them on to him. He is only looking for legit work. Not mercenary. He has been out of the Air Force for several years and therefore was not recruited. I do not know if he still will be desireable for them but figured he can work that out!!

    Again, thanks for the ideas...this is the board to go to for so many types of info!!!!

    Above is the website of Blackwater, one of the major security companies you were asking about. They have been mentioned in about 654,000,000 news articles on Iraq, and they've had the website up and running since the start of the Iraq War, if not long before.

    So, to the guy who said they're always changing names and moving around to stay ahead of the law, I guess they're on that one move every 30 years cycle. And to the fellow who was so sure that they were hiring mercenaries and that was a felony, well I would think that even after six years SOMEBODY would have caught up with them. And finally, it took me about 2 seconds by typing "blackwater" into google to find the website. If the guy who's looking for a job can't figure out how to do that, should he really be trusted with an M60? An ice cream spoon?

    The fact that he's a qualified electrician and has a military background could help out. Experience as a trainer is also a plus. Some of these companies are contracted to assist foreign governments around the world in all manner of work, not just as a trigger puller in Iraq/Afghanistan. The market is loaded with people qualified for this.
