    The Officer will not be unemployed.

    The Commanding Officer (General) running Ramstein Air Base a few years ago single handedly ordered the death of Senator Brown and was relieved of Command of the Air Base....but given a desk job in the Pentagon until he retired.

    The General was told by several Colonels that his actions would lead to the death of the Senator and all aboard the aircraft....so the General relieved them of command and did it anyways.......he was hoping to fly a fellow black person/Congressmen in style to Bosnia on a big fancy jet......a place we only were capable of flying prop C-130's into.

    Even the Secretary of Defense flew into Bosnia on a C-130.

    The General died shortly after retirement from guilt.

    They weren't armed, no biggie. That's very important. The difference between a crashed plane resulting in a minor radiological cleanup and burning down everything for miles around with a radiation plume spreading over the midwest.

    BROKEN ARROW

    -Nuclear detonation.

    -Non-nuclear detonation or burning of a nuclear weapon.

    -Radioactive contamination.

    -Jettisoning of a nuclear weapon or nuclear component.

    -Public hazard, actual or implied.

    The last one of these involving a B52 occurred ~40 years ago.

    I realize it mentions "implied public hazard", but there's a different reporting term that more accurately describes what happened in this incident.

    Misuse of this term is an honest mistake, Hollywood even misnamed a movie using it. In this flick they had weapons jettisoned, but this was an intentional act that occurred as an element of it's theft, not any accident. I guess the name Empty Quiver just didn't sound cool enough. [:D]

    It's not like another nuclear tipped missile burned in it's silo and had to be filled in with concrete....contaminating the water for several American cities for centuries to come.....

    The US Army treats broken arrows differently....when they are on fire...they jump in their vehicles and head West.

    Are you under the impression this is some sort of classified code word term? It's not even CONFIDENTIAL or FOUO.

    It's an open source reporting flagword to categorize an event that's even used in press releases.
