Rather than being staffed by people who simply signed up, learned how to fly these airplanes and then returned to civilian life, for the most part these are pilots who have completed one or more active duty enlistment periods and racked up lots of hours. They're drawn to leave active duty for higher paying civilian flying jobs but join ANG or Reserve units so they'll still get to fly these hot-rods for the next 15 yrs. or more.
On the other hand, active duty fighter wings tend to be manned by pilots on their first enlistment and still working their way up the learning curve.
Lots of trash talking was heard immediately after 9/11 about how unprepared we were because our CONUS alert fighter aircraft force was made up of ANG units. They didn't understand that these units actually contained more combat experience than their active duty counterparts.0
