    It doesn't explain what the armor is made of. It mentioned layers, but Kevlar is also layered.

    They were also using 9mm round fired through an MP5. That's what the Kevlar body armor is designed to protect against.

    I don't see any major difference between this stuff and Kevlar....

    It might have weight advatages over kevlar, guess we'll have to wait and see.

    Kevlar slowly degrades as it takes up sweat/moisture.

    This happens over time, not instantly.

    Tests have shown, that you can loose up to 40% effectiveness in Kevlar - whereas Dyneema for instance, is not effected.


    But there have been methods developed in sweeden, where layers of water in cardoors, can greatly improve safety through greater dispersion of energy.

    Kevlar and Dyneema is just fabric in layers that is tough enough to hold up to a bullet. It is the ceramic bodyplates - or the body itself that takes the blow.

    The water/fluid will disperse some of the energy and thereby lessen the effect on the body.

When wet, Kevlar does in fact lose a significant amount of it's bullet resistance, but when dried within a reasonable time this is completely regained. That's why body armor panels are always sealed in some sort of envelope.

    This new type armor doesn't work by fluid dispersion of energy. It's the silica particles suspended in a fluid medium that cause increased resistance properties. When smacked, this stuff instantly becomes a solid. Apparently, this more than makes up for the amount of resistance Kevlar loses due to moisture.
