Flourescent light bulbs ??

In January of 2006 we had a powerline spike that blew up all our electrical stuff, so we had to replace it, including our fluorescent bulbs.

An hour ago, 15 out of 40 new bulbs all failed within 3 or four minutes.

Is this a sign of good quality control, or planned obsolescence, or what??

I'm really puzzled.

    I don't think it is due to some sort of power fluctuation, as nothing else was affected.

    I'll check to see where they were manufactured.

    I'm really puzzled.

    The flourescent bulbs have been sucking speed from your DSL for the last few weeks, and that's what caused them to fail!

    Are you sure the bulbs are bad?

    If the transformer has a short it will run hot, the thermostat in the ballast will then shut it down until it cools. If you replace the bulbs and the same thing happens, your ballasts are fried.

    Also, I've found that GE bulbs are junk. I've found that 20%-30% of the new bulbs, straight out of the box, are commonly bad.

    Sylvania or Phillips are the only bulbs worth buying.

    junk bulbs.....pop science or pop mechanics had an article recently about 16 dif brands of fluoro bulbs ...good info..also check incoming voltage...we had problems not with bulbs but other thing till checked incoming & found both legs had 141 volts...REA put in new transformer

    I think its high time you installed your foil hat.How else can you explain all those bulbs going out at the same time?

    These are screw in standard lightbulb replacements - transformer is built in.

    These are Phillips bulbs.

    My tinfoil hat was having a few problems until I recently had the tactical/SWAT/sniper/assault/entry coathanger replaced with one made of hard chromed Kevlar.

    I just thought this occurrence was pretty strange.

    bad power ground wire, your lines are unbalanced, if you have a true rms meter you can verify.

    Good idea - think I'll have the power company come check it out.

    I started using those bulbs (screw in type) years ago and have no complaints. Probably have 10 in service today. Many are years old and still are fine. I think you have a problem other than the bulbs.
