The Governor was going 90+ MPH
News is reporting the NJ? gov was traveling over 90 when he crashed. He was not driving but his DMV driver had flashing lights going and probably caused the wreck since a driver ahead was trying to yield right of way.
He was only going to a meeting of some sort about the VA shooting. The arrogance of power!! I am more important than you so I can run like a batoutofhell and can own guns you can only dream about. Tom

Remember right after the wreck, the cops had an all points bulletin for a red pickup truck. They claimed the wreck was caused by a red pickup, which "fled the scene."
I thought it was unusual a few days later when they caught that pickup, but did not file charges on him.
That trooper is going to drive exactly how the governor tells him to.

SOP for VIPs under protective services to go real fast. Twice in my life I have seen a presidential motorcade go by and they were doing 100+ both times. The first was in 1991 when Bush I was in town for a speech and the second was a while back when Clinton's limo nearly ran me off the highway. When the Secret Service worries about assassination attempts they don't give a damn about speed limits. Same when transporting governors, I guess.
The driver of the red truck was located and no charges were filed. Yes, they should have been wearing seat belts. None were.0 -

Dunno... isn't there an added "safety" feature to that? If you're traveling at 100+ and you suddenly see someone who isn't part of the motorcade doing the same, doesn't that kind of give the Secret Service (whoever) a clue that there's something very wrong?

As a citizen, my official is not worth that much to me. As a citizen, my official (governor, president, whatever) doesn't get to go 90MPH on a highway with other citizens.
If my official is so important that s/he needs to travel in excess of 65 MPH, then that official can close the highway to civilian traffic while they travel. I'll gripe about that, but I'll prefer it to having some jackass thinking that because they're gov't folk, that they can travel at close to 150% of the posted limit on a road with THEIR CONSTITUENTS.
Corzine's in a bad spot. I'm sorry for him and his family. But nobody's going to convince me that he didn't put himself where he is through anything other than his own stupidity, accompanied by his disregard and disrespect for all of his constituents.
You don't travel in a vehicle without a seatbelt without being stupid.

I agree completely with you, despite offering reasons as to why it may have occurred. Public officials should be bound to the laws they force upon ordinary citizens. FWIW, that should include the right to Keep and Bear Arms as well. If Joe Average can't get a permit to carry, then Joe Politician should be extended the same courtesy.

In my state 75 is legal, so naturally we all drive 80. The governor, a presidential candidate, does drive 90 and up.

Its illegal in NJ for anyone to not wear a seatbelt. If the passenger is under 18, the driver is held responsible for the passenger wearing one. 0 -
