Cheap storm shelters
Our local Civil Defence has come up with some grant money to help fund storm shelters. They will pay up to 75% for the shelter or for beefing up a safe room in your house.I have been approved and will get an in ground shelter installed this month or early next Jan.
I am getting a large one, 6'10"W X 8'4"L X 6'10"H. This will cost me less than 1K and should seat 10+ bodies. This is, to me, a super deal. I live on top of a hill and nothing in the way to even slow down a tornado or strong wind. Hopefully, I will never have to use it for the purpose intended but I sure can store a lot of beer and guns in it! Tom

RackOps, I guess this is just a Mississippi deal. Anyway, the sign up period has passed. Sorry. Tom
PS. You are welcome to join me if you see a tornado on the way. Just bring your own beer as I may have already been down there several days waiting for stormy weather. T0 -

Wtshtf, Do you have to open it up to your neighbors? 0 -
My storm shelter cost me $1250 installed. It is about the same size but the roof is only 6 ft 6 so it is allways pulling my hair out. I dont know why places in tornado alley dont require a shelter to be added with all new construction the added cost is nothing, the safety is great. 0 -
Smart move. Power to it to keep the guns dry? 0 -

LOL! ""Turn on the ray'dio maaaw.""
Are you going fiberglass, steel, or concrete?0 -
I personally have not seen one of the shelters but have pictures from their tract.
Their specs are: precast with 6000psi concrete and reinforced with wire mesh and rebar. They include a 10 gauge steel door, two six inch vents with turbines, carpet, battery powered light and coated with thick white sealant and guaranteed not to leak. Their website:
www.fainstormshelters.com and are out of Jackson, TN.
This deal included retrofitting a safe room or building one in a new home. This is really shocking for MS, one of our poorest states. Maybe they just some FEMA money left over from the hurricane!
Yeah, it could be a very dheap crypt. Just throw me in it and pour the cement down the hatch. Tom0
