I used to have one. The one I had did not have a flash hider ( post ban I think). Compared to my Springfield it was rough. I have to say was accurate and reliable. I read about the head space problem and the soft metal and that concerned me. Some articles said that the hardness was close to a springfield. I watched the headspace particularly because that seemed to me where danger would if ever raise its ugly head. I noticed alittle erosion after awhile not much but a little so I sold it off. There is a book that I have called: The M14-type rifle by Joe Poyer. This book will tell you all you need to know about M14/M1a type rifles.
