The Battle of Athens
A little while ago I said that I was going to educate myself and become active in securing my 2nd Amendment rights. Iwannausername suggested that I read about the Battle of Athens, Tennessee. It was a very interesting read. In particular the fact that "Governor McCord mobilized the State Guard, perhaps to scare the GIs into withdrawing. The State Guard never went to Athens. McCord may have feared that Guard units filled with ex-GIs might not fire on other ex-GIs."

I think that there is a very dangerous knife edge one walks between the 2nd and vigilantism. If one advocates vigilantism as a right under the 2nd then you are advocating sedition. If you use that argument I think you have lost the battle right there.
There was a made for TV movie based on a true story about a man in Missouri who was terrorizing a town. Law enforcement would not or could not do anything about the problem. Townspeople took the law into their own hands and killed him. No one was ever charged with his murder.
In the example of The Battle of Athens the refusal by law enforcement to protect citizens from the actions of lawbreakers seems to be overlooked if the inactions are so gross that one might argue that the citizens felt they didn't have any other choice.
The counter argument of course is that in both cases all of their legal options were not exhausted.
My conclusion is that linking the 2nd with vigilantism is not the strongest position to take. At this point the key seems to be to change the perception of anti-gun advocates.0 -

It is interesting that in the world's first true democracy its wisest (and still considered the wisest Greek and one of the wisest men to ever live) Socrates warned those early free men that any government that fears and armed population should be feared by that population.

The lady has put her finger squarely upon the reason I advocate forcing pressure upon the supreme court for a Second Amnedment case.
Let the rotten corruption shine forth for ALL the world to see..and may the devil decide if subsequent actions are 'vigilantism'..or standing tall in the footprints of the Founders...0
