Even in the old westerns, when some lad would kill someone in self defense, he was usually spared the gallows only at the last second due to some heroics from the hero.

I was watching Charmed one day with my wife. One of the characters buys a gun to protect himself against DEMONS, not even people. One of the other characters reprimands him and tells him about the evils of guns! I told her she cant watch it anymore. She still does tho [:0]

TV show - no, some movies maybe, but in general it's the best way to brainwash people into thinking guns are evil instruments of murder. Ever see that in almost every movie if someone uses a gun to protect themselves they immediately drop it and start sobbing? Why is that?

I have often wondered this myself. Also, in alot of the old westerns you will see the hero, after killing the bad guy, look at his six shooter and then throw it in the dust and walk away. So, this effort to blame a killing on the instrument and not the person isn't a new thing.

riderIt could be viewed this way, but I really don't think that's what they're trying to display.

Whether it's a US cultural thing or just an aspect human nature, people who've been forced to kill someone often don't want to have anything to do with that gun anymore. I've seen this more than once. Even cops who were in clearly justifiable situations will often be seen carrying a different gun within a short time. It's bizarre.

In the real world, no matter how justified, moral people don't necessarily find the use of deadly force to be a pleasurable thing.
