...like a VCR/DVD player, but no medium except a hard drive.

...Fast forward, pause, record...fast forward thru commercials! [:D]....whatever. Have satelight, so not sure which one would be the "best" for cable. Same thing?

...Like on your computer, the bigger the hard drive...the more you can "record" on a bigger (hard drive) Tivo.. I had a 40+ hr Tivo a few years ago, changed to a lot bigger...easy to record games, anything...and watch when convienant since I cant sit in front of a TV for long...too many commercials!...[;)]

Tivo is a dvr for use with cable, however, I believe you still have to subscribe to their programming guide.

Your cable company should offer DVR cable boxes. My digital cable package includes one regular box and I pay $5 extra per month for their DVR box. Works great!

Tivos (the Tivo-brand name ones) are either designed to work with satellite OR cable. Just buy one made for cable, and it will work. You'll have to pay Tivo around $13 a month for service. I am almost positive the DN DVR will not work.

But your cable company almost certainly will rent you a DVR for $5 to $10 per month. I have an HD DVR that I rent from my cable company. I can record 2 channels at once (mine's a dual-tuner DVR), while still watching something I've already recorded. Call you cable company and ask what DVRs they have and how much they cost.
