But they save lives! We all know that guns kill! Stun guns are a nice alternative to killing poor innocent law abiding citizens just trying to make an honest living sell crack to kids.

Plug your drinking buddies into 220 volts next time. See what happens.

I have seen that Tazer knock down some pretty tough guys on tv crime shows. None of them were asking for a second shot. But, the Tazer costs a lot more than $15.
Your problem is you are using the el cheapo stun gun.

Well thats the thing, this is a stun gun with like 80's technology.
When people first had it used on them, they'd jump and it appeared initially pretty effective, but the second time once they knew what to expect, useless.

First time it was used on me, it was constant pain and I tried to back up and break contact, and he just kept contact, and it hurt.

It is all about the "stun", people don't know what to think at first, and try to get away, not fight back or anything. A criminal who knows what to expect, with a strong desire to get to you, even the more expensive ones, I doubt.

    it was one of these:

If you do a search on GB for stun guns, for the non-projectile ones, you wont find one much over $50.

The pneumatic ones that shoot probes with wires attached seem to be a minimum $280.

So my question is, are the projectile ones using anything more effective than the close quarter contact ones using just metal probes?

Or is their whole effect based on you suddenly feeling pain that wont stop and not knowing what to expect?

bring on your best stun gun, i view them as psychological weapons only, i wore out 2 of them nether was el cheapo, i had a 150,000, and a 250,000 volt, and had one rigged up to a bar stool for a special drunk that would pass out on it nightly

i first started playing with them when they where in their high days around 87-89, i first took a hit in the chest as a bet, then it was all over, it does not feel as bad as a spark plug on a running car, as i said they are a psychological weapon, compare them to a thumb tack, sit on one by surprise, and you go through the roof with pain, but look at one with knowing you could sit on it, and the same reaction will not be obtained

Thanks for posting your experiences and information. It really opened my eyes. I might have actually relied on a el cheapo stun gun before your post. Guess now I will only keep mine for use as a visible detterent and for back up will just rely on pressure point control techinque.

The huge ineffectiveness of the stun guns you mention just might explain why so many places have not passed laws against their possession and the police don't seem very worried about them either.

I own several but in my age group I am unable to find anyone drunk enough to try it on. They are two worried about getting a heart attack, etc.

HHhhhhhmmmmmm....Good point. Hey CA sucks, as a good and loyal GB.com member, please repeat your experiments and include video.

    Thank you.

A knife would likely be more effective, and useable at the same range.[:)]

So a while ago I bought a $15 stun gun off the internet, uses a 9v battery, 100,000 claimed volts, produces a good blue arc between the probes, I had seen others that use 2 9 volts, but are bulky and twice as much.
Anyway, I've been looking for drunk people willing to test it for a while, tonight I got that chance, and it was not impressive, by the end of the night everyone had done it, up to 7 seconds, at which point I just stopped, cause Im not a masochist or anything, I had it used on me twice.
Yea it kinda felt like 2 hot needles, even through a jacket, but I wouldn't trust 2 hot needles as a self defense weapon.

Useless for self defense, great for drunk pranks.

Some people reacted more strongly than others, but all in all, once they knew what to expect, anyone could take it sustained, even after I put in fresh batteries.

I dont know how effective the $1,000 pistol style 50,000 volt with "EMD" technology stun guns are, Ive seen videos on the internet, and they look pretty effective. But I wonder, if some guy too drunk to feel much gets hit, and is expecting pain, if it would be effective at all.

Of course the guy that went 7 seconds (and I stopped, he could keep going), only weighs like 165, but was bare knuckle boxing his roommate the week before, they both had bloddy lips, cuts on their head, bruised chests, cut knuckles, these guys are gluttons for punishment.

But if they had no problem with the old generation stun guns, I doubt the newer ones could stop them in their tracks.

Twice as effective is nothing if the old ones were completly ineffective. 2 x 0 = 0

    Stun guns suck

The tazers with the projectiles operate on electro-magnetic waves and make the brain stop sending signals to the muscles which causes them to tense up and then you fall down. Hopefully.

    I have a .32ACP stun gun.

    Works quite well.

I am looking for volunteers to test it.

I have one of the higher end ones that takes 2 nine volts supposed to be 600,000 volts,,it will break the skin when shocked with it ,hurts like hell, but it will not put you down and would not stop an attacker if he had his mind made up to get you.the only thing I think it would do is make someone turn you loose if they grabbed you...

Legally change your name to Chuck Norris and you'll never have need of stun guns, cattle prods, or edged weapons ever again.

We all agreed the entertainment was worth $15, just as a toy to play with when drunk, it was funny seeing people chasing each other around the back lawn with it.

And as entertainment went, everyone felt much better in the morning, compared to the week before where we had our fun watching two guys bare knuckle box (they were roommates and friends from the same hometown).
They were in pretty bad shape the next morning.

This was entertaining and had no lasting effects.

$25 plus shipping, same one I got, I guess the guy selling it was offloading them.
"Simply touch an attacker with the Z-FORCE stun gun for three to five seconds to deliver a high voltage, low amperage shock, causing loss of balance and muscle control, confusion, and disorientation. Full recovery takes about five to ten minutes"
Yea.... right.... sure.... the only disorientation and confusion they had was already there, and provided by the keg, if anything, it gave them extra mental clarity.

Say I really wanted something to carry, I could get one of these:
    http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=65748929

The older M18 as compared to the new M26 or whatever which goes for about $1000.

$15, what the heck I was willing to spend that even if it didn't work, and I gotta say it didn't at all.
But $300 for a pistol taser?

Will that M18 work? can you be sure?
They claim the EMD delivers a "quantum leap" in stopping power, but they also say:
"OTHER STUN WEAPONS: Traditional stun technology weapons operate in a 7 Watt range and interfere with the communication signals within the nervous system of the target. These stun systems primarily effect the sensory nervous system. Like static on the communication lines between the brain and the body, stun systems interfere with the human command and control systems. However, a small percentage of people with a very high tolerance for electrical stimulation can fight through the effect of the 7 Watt systems."

Small percentage of people? Everyone last night could tolerate it once they were prepared. I doubt one using two 9 volts would take anybody down either.

The 165lb guy was still making funny faces, sticking out his tongue, generally joking around after 7 seconds.

Would you want to carry the M18 without testing it? Is that one of the ones you can also use as a contact weapon without firing the darts, cause the darts are barbed right? cant really use those to test them.

I wouldn't want to put up $300 for another novelty toy of no real use.

I'll look into getting some unsuspecting people on video next week, now that I know no one is going to fall to the ground and hit their head or anything.

Taser X26c is pretty much the fire-and-forget stunner.
It has a devastating effect on big, drunk guys, and they go right down when tased.
    It has a triple choice operating system;
fire it and press the trigger for a 15-second period of compliance,
OR fire and press trigger, wait for compliance, apply modification, wait for compliance, fry the sucker,
OR fire the weapon, press the trigger 3 times and leave; the cops will know what happened and who you are before you get home.
Taser will replace the gun free if you send in the report.

I have been hit with the I.C.E shield ( isoconectic electric), I've been hit with the restraint belt, and I've been hit with "LEO" grade stun guns, as well as "leo" grade CS, CN, and OC. They hurt, but mostly just pissed me off. DIfferent people react differently with such things. I've seen men who are a hell of a lot tuffer than I get hit with them, lay down, and cry. Different people have different tolerances for different types of pain. I'd not rely on any thing other than a firearm for self defense.

What about the 800,000 to 1 million volt ones that are out now? I can't believe one of these wouldn't knock somebody down and incapacitate them. That's what they advertise anyway.

They're banned in some states and cities. They're banned in Michigan. You have to have a valid FOID card to own one in IL and (of course) they're banned in Chicago, along with a few other major cities.

you might think that some of these stun guns are junk.
But I will not be a test subject for stun belts or quality
    stun guns.
they will knock you on your ass.

One of the repuirments of my former job to use them was to be hit by them. As I said in a different post on this thread. Different people react differently to these things. quote:Originally posted by Winchester300wsm

A billion volts mean nothing if there is no ampere's. 1 or 2 amps. will tickle, but 4+ will kill most of the time. If your new toy had any amps. your joke could get you big time jail.
