I hate health insurance carriers
I was in the insurance biz for 15 years. Property and casualty is a whole different animal than is health insurance.
Today, I get a bill from a doctor. My date of service was 11/24/2006. I've never received a bill in the past, and I was covered by insurance. This bill states that my account is in severe delinquency and that they have referred my bill to a collection agency and will be reporting to the credit bureau.
This is the first notice that I've received, so you can understand how upset I am. I contact the doctor, and they stated that my health insurance provider at the time has not paid the claim and has, in fact, denied it. Of course, nobody bothered to send me notification that the claim was denied.
I ask the doctor's office why they didn't simply send me a bill, and why they had sent it to collections and reported to the credit bureaus. They indicated that the doctor has been waiting a long time for his money. I asked if they considered sending me a notice indicating there was a problem, and they indicated it was my responsibility to ensure that my insurance followed up. I asked if my medical charts showed indication that I was clairvoyant. They didn't understand the question.
I called the insurance company and demanded to know why they denied my claim. They said because I had other insurance and that my other insurance should have been primary. I asked them who the other insurance company was, and they said they had no idea. I indicated to them that I didn't have other insurance at the time and that they had no right to deny my claim. They indicated that so long as they believe I have other insurance, it is my duty to make sure that the bill gets to the right insurance company. I informed them again that there was not another insurance company at the same time. They said they would go ahead and pay the bill then.
One can't help but wonder why the insurance company assumed I had other insurance, but never bothered to ask, and why the doctor didn't think to clue me in as to there being a problem. I guess it is just easier to put a negative mark on someone's otherwise stellar credit report.
I'm thinking that the doctor's office owes me for my time and frustration trying to fix this problem. Anyone know how I can report to the credit bureau that it has not made timely payment on my bill of service?

Check your credit report to see if it shows up. If it does, call them (the credit agencies) and explain to them what happened. It takes a small miracle to remove something from the report, but at least they will note your explanation in the report. Good luck!
Happened to me on a mortgage that disability insurance was supposed to pay. Didn't bother to tell anyone, the bank that was supposed to be receiving the payments included, that they had sold off and merged with another company. My bank didn't get paid for two months. I got a letter from my bank similiar to what you got from the doctor, and it went on my credit report. It is off now, but it took forever and lots and lots of angry phone calls to my bank before it was removed.0 -
Add a comment on the negative,.......but I would be furious with the doctor!
Mine simply sends me a bill if my insurance doesn't pay something, giving me the ability to pay it, or call my insurance company.
Sounds like your doc blows, and your insurance company too!
I would be mad as hell![}:)]0 -
Insurance is a necessary evil. I pay about $10,000 a year in premiums, co-payments, prescriptions, and deductibles. And they still try and weasel out of paying for things they should. It is a business and they will make lots of money-even if they screw the working man. It is because of insurance companies and drug companies that health care is so high. But we probably have the best doctors here in the USA. 0 -
I know insurance is a necessary evil. And, I'm not complaining that I have to pay premiums.
My complaint is that both the doctor and the health carrier are ignoring the customer.0 -

You mean the customer is supposed to come first, and providers are actually supposed to CARE about their customers?? What a novel idea! [:D]0 -

Ultimate scam
My neighbers wife died from cancer. She died in St Thomas Hosp. Nashville,Tn. The insurance denied her husbands claim on 3 different polices because the cause of death stated on the death cert. was " Patient quite breathing" never mind she quite breathing because the cancer ate up her lungs and heart.
Cancer policies only pay if you die of cancer, not reactions to cancer.0
