University To Offer Scholarships To Vets
I plan on sending an email to their admin/faculty in order to thank them for doing the right thing and getting something right in academia. Will you consider doing the same?
Until this decision, it seemed the truly fashionable thing to do on any/all college campuses were limited to:
1. spitting on and running off military recruiters
2. outlawing ROTC from your college
3. protesting the war with no viable or feasible alternative COA
Wouldn't it be great if this were the beginning of a new trend?

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Wesleyan University will offer new scholarships to military veterans.
School officials said there are only perhaps two students in the 2,900-member student body who have a military background.
Two alumni of the school have endowed up to 10 new scholarships, which will be offered to vets beginning next year.

Nice to see that someone is recognizing what vets have done to secure the freedoms they enjoy.
On a side note, I seriously think that San Franfreako should lose all federal funding until they allow military recruiters back on to PUBLIC SCHOOL campuses to talk to the kids and administer the ASVAB test. If a private school or college that does not receive any federal funding wants to ban them that is completely different. But any school that is funded by the federal govt in any way shouldnt be allowed to prevent them from recruiting.0 -
My state has had it's own version of the GI Bill since '71. It's commonly known as "The Hazelwood Act" (Texas Education Code Sec. 54.203).
It provides 150 hrs. tuition free at state funded universities or colleges for all Texas veterans (12 month resident at time of enlistment) who served during specified periods of war or conflict. It covers, "all dues, fees, and charges, including fees for correspondence courses but excluding property deposit fees, student services fees, and any fees or charges for lodging, board, or clothing".
The Montgomery GI Bill educational benefits offered to all service members requires they pay $100 per month for one year in order to receive $35,000 in benefits. There is no out of pocket expense for veterans to receive benefits under this Texas program.0 -
South Dakota has a program where FREE tuition at state schools is given to any Veteran who does not get GI Bill benefits. I also got a Veterans scholarship on top of this.
I did this and got my entire undergraduate degree paid for. I was not eligible for the GI bill because I had been out of the military too long.0 -
