Update on Joe Arpaio
Update on Joe Arpaio
TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO,
HE IS THE MARICOPA ARIZONA COUNTY SHERIFF
AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER.
THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY:
Sheriff Joe Arpaio
(In Arizona )
who created the
" Tent City Jail":
He has jail meals down to 40 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.
He stopped smoking and porno magazines in the jails. Took away their weights Cut off all but "G" movies.
He started chain gangs so the inmates could do free work on county and city projects.
Then He Started
Chain Gangs For Women
So He Wouldn't Get
Sued For
Discrimination.
He took away cable TV Until
he found out there was
A
Federal Court Order
that
Required Cable TV For Jails.
So He Hooked Up The Cable TV Again
Only Let In The Disney Channel And The Weather Channel.
When asked why the weather channel
He Replied,
So They Will Know
How Hot It's Gonna Be
While They Are Working
ON
My Chain Gangs.
He Cut Off Coffee
Since It Has
Zero Nutritional Value.
When the inmates complained, he told them, "This i sn't
The Ritz/Carlton.
If You Don't Like It,
Don't Come Back."
He bought Newt Gingrich's lecture series on videotape that he pipes into the jails.
When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series might explain why a lot of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.
More On The Arizona Sheriff:
With Temperatures Being Even Hotter
Than Usual In Phoenix
(116 Degrees Just Set A New Record),
the Associated Press Reports:
About 2,000 Inmates Living In A Barbed-Wire-Surrounded Tent Encampment
At The
Maricopa County Jail Have Been Given Permission To Strip Down To Their Government-Issued
Pink Boxer Shorts.
On Wednesday, hundreds of men wearing boxers were either curled up on their bunk beds or chatted in the tents, which reached
138 Degrees
Inside The Week Before.
Many Were Also Swathed In Wet, Pink Towels As Sweat Collected On Their Chests And Dripped Down To Their PINK SOCKS.
"It Feels Like We Are In A Furnace,"
Said James Zanzot,
An Inmate Who Has Lived In The TENTS for 1 year.
"It's Inhumane."
Joe Arpaio,
the tough-guy sheriff
who created the tent city and long ago started making his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic
He said Wednesday that he told all of the inmates: "It's 120 Degrees In Iraq And
Our Soldiers Are Living In Tents Too,
And They Have To
Wear Full Battle Gear,
But
They Didn't Commit Any Crimes,
So Shut Your Damned Mouths!"
Way To Go, Sheriff!
Maybe if all prisons were like this one
there would be a lot less crime and/or repeat offenders.
Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for their parole, only to go out and commit another crime so they can get back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.
Sheriff Joe
was just re-elected Sheriff in Maricopa County, Arizona .
PS - We should elect a sheriff like this on every States.

I have been a fan of his since I first heard about him.
Strangely, he doesn't seem to have any problems getting re-elected.

Crime may be higher, but Maricopa County does have a lower repeat offender rate.
Most of the inmates do not want to go back after spending time there.0 -
Well they're criminals...But still i heard they had the same kind if personalitys doing the same kind of job in the nazi concentrationcamps during WW 2 .Probably the same typo of personalitys in Gitmo to...Hmm maybe a good question is if he enjoys his assignment...Or if he's only just doing his job... 0 -
Missed it this time, Tal.

Well at least it's good to hear that the world have some use for highly suspected (to be ) sadists. So the right man for the right job
[xx(][xx(][xx(] i presume.I would never ever hire a guy like that. But on the other side i dont run a prison either.
But it's disturbing that hes a sheriff aswell...Maybe he seen to much thugs in his life and that has clouded his judgement on proper behavior.0 -

Actually you are 100% wrong!
A sheriff is a law enforcement office who also happens to be in charge of the county jail.
The true job of a law enforcement officer is not only enforceing the laws but also to be a deturant to the would be criminals!
These people in his jail have commited a crime and he is giveing a great deturant for them to never return to his jail!
In my opinion a criminal should be treated like the trash that he is!
Another note: Those criminals that are in his tent tent jails have been convicted! Those that are awaiting trial and such stay in a regular jail and are treated much better untill they have been convicted!0 -
crime in his area is at an all time high because believe it or not, that bologna sandwich and pink trousers is still a better deal than nothing, so thugs all want in to the tent city!
you cant change a democrat. its in their blood.0 -
Art Bell,
Don't get me wrong. I love what Sheriff Joe does and wish that his brand of justice was enacted throughout the country.
But, the job of a LEO is to respond to a crime scene. I don't believe that the job of a LEO is to deter crime. I believe that one of the benefits of how Sheriff Joe acts and having more and more LEOs that patrol streets, etc., will help deter crime, but it isn't the LEOs job to deter crime, rather, it is the LEOs job to enforce the laws.
Since a LEO responds to a crime scene, and I don't want to be part of a crime scene, then the only thing I can do to deter crime is to arm myself.0 -

I agree the crime deturant is not in the physical job description.
But if you take the overall view of what there job is, in a round about way deturant is part of it.
That is part of the reason that our law enforcement do patrols! That way they are visible to the public to help detur crime.
After all is a criminal going to commit a crime knowingly in front of a law enforcement officer?
Not unless they are porposly looking to get caught![;)]0 -
...Joe is holding/cutting the costs to the taxpayers of his county for housing prisoners, his constituents are responding by keeping him in office. Obviously the voters like his stance on not to "baby" the slime too, a stance Im in total agreement with.
...The libs that feel his treatment is too harsh, need to make a trip to some of the 3rd world crap-holes and see how the "poor" prisoners are treated...go there and whine...[;)]
...Almost every wk you can go to Huntsville by the "Walls" Unit and see Euro lib protesters with signs to stop the death penalty. Walls Unit is part of TDC where death row is located. These libs from Europe come over here on their vacation time(!![:D]) to protest, I know, I stopped to talk with a few before. AMAZING their liberal views, on EVERYTHING! If you think the libs here are liberal, nah, not compared to these yea-hoos.
Swiss, Swede and French make up the majority of the lefty foreign protestors...figures...[;)]

I see. You live in one of those quaint parts of the country where they still do patrols.
Our LEOs patrol bushes and the corners of brick walls and side streets because by patrolling these areas, they can help generate revenues for their respective jurisdictions. They also patrol the local shopping mall, because it is air conditioned, it generates a lot of revenue in terms of tax receipts for the county, and it has a food court.
The neighborhood that I live in has a growing vandalism/graffiti problem. We've called the sheriff, and we're always told that they are too busy to do patrols here at night. Our sheriff talks big on wanting to stop vandalism and graffiti, has even posted quite a few stories in the newspaper stating how tough he wants to be on the problem, but offer him a simple solution like sending some of his deputies in a car once or twice a night through the neighborhoods, and they're too busy.
Meanwhile, when I read the crime reports in our newspaper, they almost always have to do with shoplifters at the mall.
Every 4th of July, we get teens in our neighborhood that set off fireworks, despite the fact that there has been a ban on them for several years. Try reporting to the sheriff, weeks before the 4th, that kids are setting off fireworks -- not sparklers, not fountains, but the kind that go up and go "BOOM" and the kind that set yards and houses on fire. Sending a patrol car through the neighborhood once an evening might deter crime, but apparently the sheriff is still too busy at 10pm deterring shoplifters an hour after the mall has closed.
The funny thing is that we have three LEOs that live in this neighborhood. Of course, they don't get to park their patrol cars in front of their house at night...
And, before anyone jumps on me, don't get me wrong. I have no beef against LEOs. The problem is our elected sheriff. The LEOs are, I'm sure, simply following orders.0 -
Your Sheriff is missing one of the building blocks of law enforcement. That is crime deterrence thru omnipresence. It cost next to nothing to send a patrol car thru an area to deter crime. If they have a policy that a deputy must respond, then call and ask to speak to the patrol deputy. Do not settle for a phone call. Have them respond and show and tell what are your problems. Your Sheriff should also have a neighborhood policing strategy. Also ask what is their strategy for solving your problems, in your neighborhood.
Be polite but insistent. Make sure they follow thru. Write letters to the Captain of the station that patrols your area, explaining what the problems are. Let me know what their responses are to all this attention.0 -
Yes, he seems to have no problems with reelction. The question should be have his methods, which have been in effect for many years (we've been reading about him here on GB for a long time) been adopted by any other agencies? If not, then why? 0 -
...Dennis, it is an "awakining" of sorts to talk with these foreign protestors. They seem like well intended nice folks, though missguided. That said, one has to realize they have been raised in a very liberal society, so their views I would suspose are the "norm", mainstream.
...If you ever pass thru Huntsville,Texas...it's hard to miss the Walls Unit, or the protestors. Interesting to talk with them, though they have some grave missconceptions of how "it" really is here in the US as they have the same liberal talking points spewed by the libs here and seemed somewhat shocked and doubtful when confronted with facts...I guess a lefty is about the same no matter where their habitat is...[;)]

There might be some things in common between liberals here and there.
However...Tell me what they get so chocked bout hearing from u then ?
However yeah...[:)][:D][8D][;)] i might lean towards the lefty side over here. But some of the really good stuff our liberals stands for, that's the things your consrvatives like i noticed.
For an example i'm feel very liberal about letting just bout anyone that wants,to own whatever gun they want....So i'm a real gunliberal then. Hmm and in USA the military seemes to be consevative thinggy ???
Well over here everybody (seing ?) the benefits of having a strong army.
Anyhow what are u trying to say ? That liberals feel softy bout criminals
But only us conservatives know how to appreciate a real nazicamp warden when we see one...Well dont let that behavior go to far and screen that guy mentaly to see if he's sane. However ofcourse scaring people from becoming criminals might be a good idea.Just make sure it's not a sadist there enjoying himselfe..Or maybe it dont matter
Not to forget that thread with that dude that basically wanted to see all welfare needy dead...You know that's whacky and i'm glad to see at least someone protested bout that.
Hmm what else to say...[;)] I reckon God and Jesus is liberal [:)]
and the devil is a consevative....Well maybe i dont know all bout USA yet u know...And a consevative here or over there is just not exactly the same.As i said before here they have this colonial attitude combined with some heavy nazi influence. But i'm not going to be around here always taking a side for the libs...It all just depends on what i personally believe in...
PS and dont be greedy,be fair. Thats my style.0 -
And i dont think i am all that soft anyway...Like i soldier i dont think i would have any problem at all to shoot whomever that planning to kill me.Shoot first or get killed kind of. 0 -
Who said anything about liberals, conservatives, God, or Jesus? I just said if you can't do the time, don't do the crime. The criminals deserve to be there. No one made them break the law. Are you trying to say that the fact that I beleive a man should be held responsible for his actions makes me like a nazi? 0 -

You can hardly post a thread around here if you don't include something about loving Jesus!0 -

Since a LEO responds to a crime scene, and I don't want to be part of a crime scene, then the only thing I can do to deter crime is to arm myself.
One several points you are incorrect.
Police work 101 dictates that even basic patrol is "preventive (read deterrent) patrol". The idea is to make a criminal think that if he tries to do whatever he is planning, the cops are going to drive around the corner and catch him in the act. That is clearly "deterrence". Directed patrol into areas of high crime are to apprehend violators, but to, you guessed it, "deter" further crime.
A cop should do far more than just respond to the crime scene, arguably to "take a report" of some crime. The cop should conduct an investigation into the facts and circumstances. If that investigation were to provide information of a pending crime, should he then "deter" it, or wait till it happens and then respond to the crime scene to "take another report"?
The third tier of this is that when the courts sentence a criminal to jail/prison, part of the concept is to punish the behavior and due to that punishment, "deter" the criminal from future crimes for fear of further punishment.
The last point about the 'LEO's" job being to enforce laws, gets directly to the divergence of philosophy in police work, namely, that of the role of a "Law Enforcement Officer" vs the role of a "Peace Officer". I will save a discussion of the difference for another thread, but there is a clear distinction between the two, in mindset, public perception and outcome.0 -
git_r_done, the meaning of "an eye for an eye" is supposed to mean something more in line with, if someone steels your eye then you have the right to have your eye returned. Or your goat, or what ever it was that was stolen. Not punishment.
The Sheriff has the right idea. Todays jails are not much more than a slap on the hands. Criminals do not see jail time as a deterent. It's just a cost of doing business.0 -

I love the answer to " an eye for a eye" Never take anything god or jesus said for what they said. Twist it to mean what ever you want it to say. That explains the world troubles. The news media twists everything that does not fit their agenda. 0
