I have never had that happen with Brownells or Midway, though I don't order a lot from Midway. I have had dozens of orders large and small from Bob Brownell and get them within three or four days. I especially like their tech department emailing intricate instructions as well as printable "how to" pamplets on line. I don't buy parts from them except barrels and barrel blanks, just tools mostly. They cost more than a lot of other places, but the tools will last forever. 0 -
Good fer you big C,I have never had them lose an order YET,but when I call in an order, if they do not have all the items I want, I cancel the hole order. Most of the time their are about 4 or 5 of us that want things so the order is all way above $200.00. I have been having problems with midway for the past 4 year's do manage to get one order in a year so they keep sending me their advertisement. 0 -
I have been using Midway for a long time and Brownells some times. I do my Midway orders on line and that way I can see what is in stock and what isn't. If things are on backorder I just don't order them at that time. If I order during the week it gets shipped the next day and takes about 3 days to get to me.
I just keep a running "wish list" on Midway and when I see the things I want are no longer on back order I add them to my main order.0 -
I have never had this problem. But I would forgive them if I did. Everyone makes maistakes. Sad fact of being Human. Sorry you are so unforgiving. I think I am glad I don't do business with you. 0 -
Wow! bad luck. I have been dealing with Brownells for 20 years or so and have Never had a single problem be it bad product, miss shipped or lost shipment. I have had a couple of bad items from Midway but they have never lost my order. I always either call in my order or do it online with both companies. With Brownells I always get an email confirmation sent to me and it usually ships the same day. 0 -
Wow. I have dealt with Brownell's since you had to send the order by Pony Express, well, actually 31 years. They haven't lost one yet. Neither has Midway. Now Sarco was a different story. Maybe just bad luck on those two. 0 -
Hope you never loose anything...should have gave them the chance to correct the problem.

I always get my Midway stuff in 2 or 3 days, no problem...
Of course they ship from NY and I'm in NJ........[:D][:D][:D]0 -
Give em a chance? Been doing business with both places for over 30 years. After my customer being pissed off because I failed to get what they needed, and wanted it after a month of waiting, NO! dont ship it, I will get it where I know it will get here in time. This is not the first time this has happened at both places.
WE phone in all our orders and get a confirmation order number on the spot.0 -
Nwcid: givette here. Ref. backorders, on some items, their computer won't generate a "re-stock" unless/until there's a customer demand. They won't carry it until there's an order placed.
There's just too much unsold stock laying on the shelves, otherwise. Too expensive to do a "blind-order" on all but the items that are known to be good movers.
I wish it were different. But due to economics, wholesalers will be doing this more, and more. Joe
EDIT: Classic...I'm interested in the place you use for orders. I, also like good service. You forgot to post a link. Joe0 -
For the Past 4 years If Midway does not have my full order (I never call in a part order) I go to Mid South and they have what i want and their shipping is cheaper. I just call in an order to midway just to let them know they missed an order for NOT having what they addvertise. 0 -
Never had a problem with Midway!!! 0 -
Before I place the order for classic I make sure they have the product, if not then I move on to the next place. It is when they give me an order number or email me that they received an order, then tell me they didnt get the order, that is where the problem is...We set here and wait a month and nothing shows up?? Dont think so... 0 -
I haven't done any business with Midway since they failed to honor the price in their catalog. They had no advertised number to sell on a Ruger stock/barrel combo and when I went to order, they told me they oversold and wouldn't honor price or make a substitution.
They encourage letters to the owner, But....I wrote to letters to Larry Potterfield, one by US Mail and a follow-up by email. Both went unanswered. Guess they don't have time for my money.
I now see others are having the same problem. I think I will forward this thread to them.0 -
Ordered a few things from midway, but never brownell's. Never had a problem with them, or any online supplier I do business with. I always recommend sportsmansguide.com to everyone too. 0 -

That is kinda funny. Sportsmans guide has about the worst rep out there. About the only thing I order from them is ammo and I was going to quit a while back after they messed with one of my orders, but they remain/remained way cheeper then any one else.
They have a huge habit of changing prices, eternal BO, and canceling orders.0 -
I use Brownells all the time and order online, that way I know if an item is in stock or not, plus I get a confirmation number and and an e-mail notification when the items ship. I have never had a problem with Brownells and I think they have the best customer service in the industry! 0 -

I've NEVER had a prob with SG and neither have any of the people I've referred. Ordered mainly ammo and it's always been delivered promptly and efficiently and with no orders of them changing my order or price.0 -
SOme have problems with brownells, some with midway, some with sportsman guide...
Still others have had no problems at all with any of the 3 mentioned...
Point is, companies are not perfect just as ppl arent...we all screw up once in a while....no biggie..0 -
Thats true Beth, but customer service is not what it used to be. 0 -
Yeah, I had a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow for almost a week; ran out of gas, and I just left it on the side of the road! Been buying Rollses for almost 75 years, and this is the first one that didn't get unlimited gas mileage. Boy, that chaps my blinkers! Think I'm mad enough to go burn down the dealership! Better yet, I could be like Classic and poke myself in the eye with a sharp stick, whine about it, pay someone else twice what it's worth, and have them poke me in the eye!
Never gonna buy anything from anyone ever again, by golly!
That'll show 'em!
First Rolls Royce; now Hyundai!0 -
GUNNUT: you are one of those that put words that werent spoken in the fray.
No where did I say I wouldnt do business with either company again. Just had to take my business on those particular items (which both had in stock) and go to where I could get it the fastest (which I did). There are two many companies out there to have to wait on one to correct their mistake and stall me some more. Point being customer service is slipping everywhere.
I always give an extra week to my customers when ordering something for them for this reason.0 -
I sent a copy of this post to the president of Midway USA. Mr Potterfield emailed me back.
Here is what he said in his email.
I would certainly be interested in the details about this "lost order". Did you start this post? I would like to hear about what happened, and how my staff reacted to the problem. A few posts down I saw a guy that claimed I don't answer emails.I would dispute that claim for sure. I guess anyone can say anything on the net, but you know the truth that I do answer my emails. Its makes me wonder what else that was said in the forum is not correct.

He obviously didn't know that I was the person that had sent the letters and had gotten no response. I emailed him copies of my letters. I am waiting to hear back from him. I am sure he is a decent guy. He didn't get where he is without being a good businessman. I sent him one email with the letters as attachments and another one that had the printed text in case he had a problem opening the attachments.0 -
Some of you may be aware (or recall) that I got the info for my second letter from someone on these posts. I'll have to try and locate the older post. 0 -
Here is the older post.

I got a response from Mr Potterfield, actually 2 of them.
Here is the 1st
I am afraid my anti virus software won't permit me to open the attachments. I am sorry you got caught in that net; I have no doubt that you sent the emails. Now that I have you, what did we do that upset you?
Aim Straight,
Larry
and here is the 2nd
You must be pretty computer savvy! I just emailed you for this info! I remember this promotion. We sold far more than the product line manager anticipated. I have always felt it is very important to treat all of my customers the same way, which means when we have a situation like this we either allow backorders for everybody or nobody. In this case, since the supplier offered us a limited number at below our usual cost, we were unable to take backorders for additional units. Anytime I get a promotion like this I run the risk of alienating all the customers that don't call quickly enough. I am sorry my decision to run the promo even though it was a limited quantity did that, but I will stand by my original decision insofar as everyone must be treated the same way. I am sorry I don't have anything I can offer you, outside of this explanation.
Thanks for the chance to try and explain why I make the decisions I do. I have to try as make as many people as happy as possible. Invariably, this means some people are disappointed.
Aim Straight,
Larry
and here is what I wrote in response
Dear Mr Potterfield,
When I spoke with your customer service rep, the impression that I got was that some people HAD BEEN allowed to backorder.
That is EXACTLY why I was upset and decided to write. I tried to indicate this in my letter. I'm sorry if I didn't make myself clear but after 2 letters without even a response (and one was by regular mail and the second, by email which didn't have an attachment) I decided that you were not interested in my business any longer. If you look at the posts on gunbroker.com again, I referenced my earlier letter in a later post.
Had I received a response to either of my letters like the one you just gave, I would have had no problem doing business with your company. Even though I would not have been happy, I try to be a reasonable person. I just got the impression that nobody cared any longer so I decided to do business elseware. It may seem a little trivial, but the fact that you just said that you were sorry means a lot to me. I often tell my kids that everyone makes mistakes. The first step is to own up and apologize. Then do what you can to make it right. I understand that it's not good business sense to loose money on a product, so nothing further is necessary.
Now that you have explained, I am fine with doing business with your comany once again. A reasonable explanation and an apology can go a long way towards good customer relations.
Thanks-Mike
Please excuse my typos. I make mistakes as well.[;)]0 -
All of my orders with both are done on-line these days. Never had a problem with either except an occasional back order.
I don't order a lot though.0
