280 rem

can i hear some (honest) pros and cons on the 280 rem. where does it
fit varmit, deer, brown bear. does it have a place.

Right between the 270 Win and that other one ................ Oh Yeah, the 30/06.
Basically same ballistics as the 270 with the ability to launch slightly heavier bullets with a little more SD and give better downrange energy.
If you've already got a 270 or 06 the 280 doesn't have a lot to offer you, but it is a fine cartridge.

how does the rcoil compare to the 06, i ck balistics and it is pretty close with the 06 and the 308, but doesn't say any thing about the other end of the rifle, getting old and looking for something easy on the shoulder.

Agree with stanman. Kill anything on this continent well except for maybe the big bears. I have one in Ruger M77. Never hunted with it.

Stanman covered it pretty well. Recoil is about like the .270, depending upon the configuration of your stock. Actually O'Connor thought the .280 was better than the .270, but after he had said you could do anything with a .270, he felt he could not back off and go for the .280.

If you want mild recoil in a good deer rifle, thing .257 Roberts. I do, often.
