What a terrific momma cat!
One week after being born, six baby skunks were abandoned by their mother. Luckily, we had just weaned five kittens off of our resident farm cat a day before and hoped that perhaps she might take them on as her own. She was reluctant at first, but she let them nurse - a positive sign. Two weeks have gone by and the six little "Stinkers" are thriving and their new mom couldn't be happier. She has become quite devoted to them and even carries them around to show them off to visitors.

I think this is pretty cool. Of course, some will think this story really stinks. [:D]

Great Mommy Kitty. I messed around with baby skunks as a little tyke - for a brief time.
By the way, tomato juice does NOT work.

That's a really good question Bob. Fortunately, it's not our cat. My cousin forwarded me the story. [;)]

I've heard that a skunk makes a decent pet. Just have to get the musk gland removed. 0 -
But what does snopes say about this? Don 0 -
Local paper just ran story (with pics) of a Rottweiler that has adopted 3 abandoned kittens. they are nursing along with the pups- 80 lb Momma dog washing kitties, carrying them around, etc. Boy, them are gonna be some CONFUSED cats! 0 -
I had a pet skunk when I was a kid.
Meanest little bugger around.
Dad would take him to the bar and get free beer for himself and free sausage for the skunk. Skunk just disappeared one day. Mom swore she didn't know anything about it.
This afternoon we heard a shot on the other side of the field and shortly after skunk smell.
Skunks are beneficial as long as they don't set up house under yours.
In Washington state I believe it is against the law to keep a wild animal as a pet.

Friend of mine had one. It was mean too. It would hide under the couch and try to sever your achilles tendon! It got his wife real good one day and shortly afterward "somehow" got out the door and disappeared! Strange since they also had a chainlink fence that was bedded in a concrete footer. (she never admitted to it either) [:D]

mom and dad used to have a pet skunk with the stink sac removed. it lived in the bathroom and liked to come visit you on the pot. scared the living bejessus out of house guest. parents thought it was the funniest damn thing immaginable[:D] 0 -
I work with the wife of the countries formost authority on skunks (Is that really a distinction of honor?), and she hand raises several skunk kits each year. They have adult pets in the house that are unaltered. Pretty interesting. So Hobbyguy, are you going to have a bunch of barn skunks around now?[^][:p] 0 -

That's hilarious! A friend of mine had one when I was a kid. Of course his name was "Stinky" (the pet skunk, not my friend). His was pretty friendly and would lay in your lap on it's back and fall asleep if you rubbed it's belly. It also had the scent gland removed. Unusual pet to say the least. [:D]0 -
