My new, old S&W, M&P pictures

Here are some pictures of the 2", M&P revolver that Bigtire let me buy at the last Topeka gun show. I got it FTF for $275.00. I am very happy. I love gun shows. It was produced in 1947 and has the one line "Made in U.S.A." roll mark and the half round front sight. It ha a barely marked turn line, excellent diamond grips and blue. It really doesn't show that it's been shot much, if at all.

Here it is resting comfortably with the rest of the litter.

    No, it's a pre 36 Chief Special with the large trigger guard and smaller I frame grips. It's my only "safe queen." It's supposed to be unfired, who knows?, but it is so nice and I didn't need it, so I haven't shot it. That doesn't make a lot of sence, does it?[:I]

    I was looking at a 686 the other day. The guy behind the counter said you can not find a better pistol for the money. And you would expect him to say that about anything he is selling. So what do you think about yours wundudnee?

    The only stainless revolvers I have are the 610, 617 and the 64 snubby. I have heard a lot of good reports about the 686s, but I'm basically a blue and wood lover.

    P.S. I didn't count the Taurus 8 shooter.[;)]

    Just in case you ddn't know, that's what collectors call a "transitional model" having been made post-war but using a left-over pre-war frame. Given the apparent condition and the scarcity of 2" M&Ps you got a real deal on this one.

    I'm not totally sure, but I think I read 1949-50. SaxonPig would know for sure, or the guys on the S&W forum. I had to ask them what I had, as I was confused by it having an S prefix serial# instead of a K. I just knew when I saw it that it looked like a winner.
