I am with Capital One. For no reason, they have jacked my rate up to 15.5 percent. It had been 9.9 percent for the past 14 years. I have never been late on a payment.
Who has a good credit card company? What is a good rate these days?
I might have to jump ship.

They did it to us too. I had a 5.9% Platinum card with them for years, they sent a letter saying that it was going to 12.9% so I canceled it. Just use our debit card now.

pick one that allows purchases interest free till billing then pay it all off every month...beware some cc charge from day of purchase...use no cash advance or service of any kind....your fees go up in your case because you are NOT a good customer , they are not making anything because of your GOOD fiscal policy, so will find any excuse to jack rates...check the number of days allowed for them to receive payment..this has been shortened up till weekend of holiday pay by time you receive & send makes it a late pay...any consumer report type of cc company comparison or does rates, etc change to fast???? i have had one card since 70's when it started out as a local, now 4 ownership changes it is B of A visa & i don't like their policy of cards to illegals but use it only for internet & travel occasionally...

Very strange,.......I still have a Capital One with a fixed 4.99% rate.
It has still not changed. They HAVE offered to "upgrade" me to a different card with a higher rate though![:D]
I also have a Citibank Dividend card, and a Chase Dividend card.
My fiance just got one from Juniper that is 8.99%.
Do a search for CC with the best interest rates.
Rate shouldn't matter to me, as I pay them in full every month, but it still does for some reason![;)]

I don't care how high they raise the rates. I pay mine off EVERY month! I recommend that you do the same. I charge everything except fast food places.

Try to rent a car without a credit card. Use one that gives you a rebate, such as credit at Cabela's, frequent flyer miles, or some kickback you can use. Then, as suggested above, pay it every month, carry no balance.

You have a Capital One at 4.99? Damn, I knew I was getting screwed.
It is good advice to pay it off every month. Unfortunately, I have a broken leg, haven't been able to work for 3 1/2 months, still am on crutches, am getting stuck with about $7K in medical bills, after insurance.

    Allen,.......nobody can get one anymore.
I applied for this several years ago, and it required extremely high credit scores to get. A friend of mine applied, and was turned down, and does not have bad credit.
It is Capital One Platinum "No-Hassle" card.
I am amazed myself, that the rate has stayed locked, but it is.
As I said though, they keep basically trying to get me to close it, and switch to another card![:D]
I rarely use it, as it is not a cash back card,.......but keep it because it has a 15K limit, and it would be the card to use if I was not able to pay off a balance for some unforeseen reason.
The 8.99% that my fiance got, is the lowest I have seen recently, but I can't find the card on their site. Probably don't offer it anymore!

Well you should be able to get all, but maybe some of the real "finicky" cards, and that would be very few.
Mine is right at 800 currently.

Not always a good idea. Online purchases are better done with anything but your own cash.

A credit card (not speaking of bank issued debit cards here) is one third of the most damaging trinity of evil to face any married man.

    The other two thirds?

    A wife, and eBay.

A credit card, a wife and ebay have met many a good man his match.

No offense meant to all of you folks that call CC's "of the devil", and none are good, etc.
I would imagine that the ones with those responses, have gotten themselves into trouble with them.
    Whose fault is that?
They are the same thing as cash, as long as you have the internal "discipline", to consider them as such.
I just get a bit shocked to see the same people advising cash all the time. Not everyone has your obvious problem, and can handle them quite well.
Cash doesn't work for everything in this age,.......and sometimes, one needs some credit to get through a bad situation.
You buy a product with cash,......and it is not as represented, you are screwed, if the seller is dishonest. I am not referring to buying guns on GB.
With a CC, you can file a dispute against a dishonest merchant, and most times, if you are telling the truth, you get your money back, and the crook gets screwed, as it should be.
Using a debit card, is one of the more dangerous things you can use. Your pin gets swiped, you will be lucky to ever get your money back from the bank, and if you do, it will take weeks to months.
Paying bills by letting companies debit your bank account, is another losers proposition. Once they have access, they can do whatever they wish.
The nightmares with CC's come from not paying your bill by the due date, being out of control, and not considering it the same as cash, IMHO!

Edit: If you cannot control yourself, or keep a mental track of your expenditures,......then I fully agree, you should not have a credit card!

I use Citibank exclusively now. I had lots of cards that I had never used and cancelled them all.

I pay no yearly fee and have really never paid attention to the APR because I always pay in full each month. They pay me a dividend to use the card.

The reason I really like Citibank is what they did for me in College. I ordered a Micron laptop and charged it to my Citibank card. Got the laptop and it did not work well at all. I called Micron and got a new one shipped out and returned the old one. The new one was defective as well. I call Micron and they said, too bad it has been a week since we shipped it and we only have a 7 day return period. I called Citibank, explained my story and that they would not refund the money. Within 10 minutes of hanging up with Citibank, Micron called and begrudgingly gave me a Return Number. Then Citibank called back, said not to worry about the charge and that my account limit was increased so I could go get another computer immediately.

They made a good impression on me.

I did have that problem. I also had the same problems some times trying to rent a hotel or motel room. I don't really care what interest rate they charge. I only care about the rebates & the float.
When I first got married we couldn't get any credit cards. At that time they cared about if you could pay them back. They also had limits on the cards that really meant limit. That was all you could buy.
Now all they do is look for suckers to stick with over limit fees, late fees & high interest rates. They really are evil but as long as I get the rebates & free float I will use them.
I understand that Capitol One is one of the worst. They issue multiple low limit cards to the same people & then collect massive amounts of over limit fees & late charges.

They're all the same. They want to make money. Your money, mine, or anywhere they can get it. And they do very well taking advantage of the naivity of American spenders. It's so easy to use..You can get ANY damn thing so easily.

However they do have their uses if you pay attention. Keep the bills paid off!!!

If you keep using them and just paying the minimum, it will destroy you. Use them, pay them off every month, they are very handy to have. I havce one, I owe them nothing, although I use it frequently. Which one isn't important. They all have the same aim..Getting your money.

Once again,........you know what your limit is!
Don't exceed it, and no problems.
I am not saying that they are not predatory, but when do the folks with them, admit,.........I screwed up, and it was my fault?
I have never had a fee of ANY type, nor have I paid a dime in interest.
I make money every year in cash back, and my credit score is 800,......plus I use the "schmucks" money for 30 days free.
They get the merchant fee, and they are happy. So am I![8D]
    To each their own.

Very easy fix. Capital One did the same to me. I picked up the phone, called them and advised them that I would transfer the entire balance to another account (CitiBank) with a lower rate (4.99% on transfers)---if they did not return my rate to 9.9%. They immediately adjusted my account back to 9.9% while I was on the phone. Just call them!

Since we are on the subject of credit cards. Does anyone know of a card that gives "more than" 5% cash back, AND/OR has a limit of more than $300 cash back a year?

I know of ones that do not have a limit on cash back per year, but they only pay 1-2%. Another pays 3% on the 3 places where you spend the most each month, but again, they have a limit of $300 a year.

Don't care much about the interest rate, as it is paid off each month. Don't care about sky miles either, as I don't travel much.
